It was fine to delete what you deleted on your talk page. The welcome message says "Feel free to delete this once you're done with it." Just so you know, though, it's usually frowned upon to delete other comments left on your talk page, unless it's trolling or vandalism. But you were fine to do what you did, so don't worry.
