Are these kids Japanese? That would explain the Engrish on that one kid's shirt.-- Benol, aka Coach B 23:38, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the children in the depicted class are Japanese. Hence "Ichiro", the Japanese baseball player. — Lapper (talk) 23:41, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] John Podeszwa
Can we get a source for this?
The photo was taken by John Podeszwa at Waiokeola English School in Osaka, Japan.
I found the following in a few quick searches:
- USA Today poem written by a John Podeszwa, Osaka, Japan; published 01 May 2003
- handicappedpets.com entry by a John Podeszwa from Osaka, Japan
- Blog entry comment from 21 March 2006 that mentions a John Podeszwa that moved to Japan to work at English school and operates seal-pool.org, but the domain info for the site is private and can't be confirmed.
- John then also comments on the entry on 16 October 2006, his name links to a MySpace account.
I sent him a message and am waiting to hear back. -- Tom 08:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, and the User:Seal Pool that made the edit probably is John Podeszwa himself. -- Tom 09:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I got a reply, just as I suspected:
That's me. I was searching for other pictures that I took of that class that day, and had no luck. I think they are on an external drive in storage somewhere.
I no longer work for that school, but a few of the kids in the picture followed me to my new school.
This is the boy in the yellow shirt a few years ago.
I'll have a closer look tonight to see if I can dig the pics up. You can actually see the faces of the girls who were holding their drawings in front of their faces.
Good detective work finding me.
John
