It could also be that TBC are making a reference to "The Wizard of Oz," which has been interpreted as a far out literary allusion to the political movement at the end of the 19th century that sought to take the U.S. off of the "gold standard." Putting the allusions and symbologies right out front might be their subtle way of mocking that writing style.

The Cheat as the Popular Vote

The Popular Vote is the sidekick of the King of Town who ruled Free Country, USA in the days before Decemberween was discovered. He had a secret past with an angel, but their relationship came to a tragic end. The angel reminds The Popular Vote not to cry so that he does not rust. He is represented in A Decemberween Pageant as The Cheat wearing a sign which says "The Popular Vote"
