1936 is era from which the Homestar cartoons allegedly originate. The toons from this period are in black and white with grainy footage, and the characters look and sound different from their modern-day counterparts, and often have slightly different personae.
The earliest film in this era, a series of 22 second shorts called Kick the Can, is actually dated 1933.
