Like a wendigo, this monster has a voracious appetite for human flesh, and on the night of a full moon he swoops from the skies in the guise of a massive owl, mesmerizes people with his glowing eyes and carries them away in his bone-snapping talons. The White Mountain Apache tribe know the creature as Big Owl, but he can take on other forms—and in the guise of a giant he carries a blood-spattered basket for holding the bod yparts of victims. He's less often seen today, but lone travellers should be on their guard, for Big Owl loves to torture his captives, ripping away one limb at a time and devouring each morsel at leisure while the victim slowly bleeds to death.</span>

Of course, legends told that anyone who did so immediately became a murdurous wendigo with a craving fro more and more human meat.
