I think we should move this page to Homestar Runner Wiki (click the link to see what it could look like). That way, it will show the actual title of the wiki instead of boring ol' "Main Page" (which of course would be left as a redirect). The MediaWiki front page is an excellent example of how it could be. — It's dot com 01:24, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:I support leaving it Main Page. Most to all MediaWiki wikis (257,000,000 at this moment) leave the title as the default. This page is the sole exception to the "articles are in the main namespace" rule, and giving it a different title would make it seem as if this was an article about the Homestar Runner Wiki (remember, we already have an article for that at HRWiki:A History). This is the main page of the wiki, it's our cover page and our table of contents. It's not the Homestar Runner Wiki. The entire wiki is the Homestar Runner Wiki. (I also never liked it when our main page was called HomestarRunnerWiki way back when.) -- Tom 02:14, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

::Most to all wikis use Main Page because they either don't know they can change it or don't have the access. I myself didn't know until I saw MediaWiki. If we're going to have one exception in the main namespace, shouldn't it be such that the title of the wiki can be on the front page? — It's dot com 02:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

::Following with what Tom said, I completely disagree that Main Page should be changed to Homestar Runner Wiki. The front page is not the whole wiki, it's just the main page. It has links to the other pages that make up the Homestar Runner Wiki. The pratical use of a "Homestar Runner Wiki" page would be to talk about HRWiki, which would go under the HRWiki: namespace, therefore calling itself HRWiki:About, which we already have. — 03:27, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:::Lapper: I think you're splitting hairs here. The reason for the change isn't so that we have an article about the wiki itself, it's so that the words "Homestar Runner Wiki" will appear, as a title like in that link, at the top of the page all professional-like. I suppose one could make a case that a page called "Homestar Runner Wiki" is just fine for a table of contents of the wiki, and certainly "Talk:Homestar Runner Wiki" would be a good change, since the page is devoted to general discussion about wiki matters and isn't really used much to talk about the contents or format of the front page. — It's dot com 03:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

::::That's not what I was saying; I was saying that that would be the pratical use for such a title. I prefer the term "Main Page", although "Talk:Main Page" is somewhat misleading, as most of the time it isn't for discussion of the Main Page. — 03:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:Support. I can see the arguments for both sides. The strongest argument against, I think, is that the main page is not the whole Homestar Runner Wiki, but just the entry portal. That being said, I can't see that confusing anyone or causing problems. "Homestar Runner Wiki" would look a little nicer, and it would make the purpose of this talk page more clear (it took me a long time to realize that discussions about the wiki in general were occurring here). 18:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:I don't care too much, but I would prefer that it stay as the Main Page, for all the reasons above, and most people will already see from the logo that this is the HRWiki, and the Main Page title will complement it by saying that it's the main page. Plus, I don't want to stare at a note that I was redirected when I enter the site. Another Option: we could do what Wikipedia does, and cut out the title completely. Something inside me tells me that WP editors got into the same argument we are, and found this to be the best option to satisfy both sides. —BazookaJoe 19:26, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

:Something to point out is the fact that Wikipedia can't do this, because they already have an article about the encyclopedia itself in the same place where the title article would go. :I'm kinda in between... on one hand, it really is the Main Page and that's a descriptive title ('Homestar Runner Wiki - Homestar Runner Wiki' would look weird but maybe that can be fixed). On the other hand, 'Homestar Runner Wiki' looks a ton nicer and more welcoming. I'll say I support. It wouldn't look like an article about the Homestar Runner Wiki any more than 'Main Page' looks like an article about the Main Page on H*R.

:To support, I would have to see a benefit to the change, one that is a noticeable improvement over how it is now. If it is changed as proposed, we shall still have a name that does not adequately address the page. THe only problem I've seen noted about the current title is that it is "boring" - but being an encyclopedia, this wiki should not be trying to be "exciting", rather it should be noting what is exciting about Homestar Runner. Since I see no real benefit from such a change, I must decline.

:However, I counterpropose: change name to "Homestar Runner Wiki - Main Page". This allows the page to be identified as exactly what it is, but also serve as a suitable cover for the encyclopedia. 21:20, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

::In response to Qermaq, although this is indeed a "compromise", I believe that that title is rather long, not only for a URL, but for the H1 title itself. Perhaps it is an accurate description, but it is slightly wordy. — 01:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

:Why not move it into the HRWiki: namespace? There's no real reason why we couldn't... If the appropriate MediaWiki pages are changed, there's nothing stopping the main page from being HRWiki:Main Page, or HRWiki:Homestar Runner Wiki or something like that... and it would answer the question about it being a Main Page, rather than being about a Main Page. And for those that are wondering: http://www.hrwiki.org/ would correctly load the right page, no "Redirected" message. Main Page would have to be kept as a redirect though, for people that have http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Main_Page bookmarked, or as an external link on their page. After enough time, it could concievably become a redirect to Main Pages with a disambig notice to the new main page, but that's a discussion for then, not now. 13:54, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

::Phlip's idea of HRWiki:Main Page holds merit, and I would support it. 21:31, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

::::"HRWiki:Main Page" is a pretty good compromise, and it might even solve the talk page ambiguity problem. "HRWiki talk:Main Page" does sound like the main talk page for the Homestar Runner Wiki. If "Homestar Runner Wiki" doesn't fly, I could definitely support this one. 13:41, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

:I support either leaving it as Main Page or eliminating the page title a la Wikipedia. Moving the Main Page to Homestar Runner Wiki would be a bit too drastic in my opinion. 23:46, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

::I don't think that's what they're planning to do, I think they'll just change the title a different way so the URL is still Main Page but the title displays Homestar Runner Wiki. Which, by the way, I support --Ju Ju Master 18:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

:::I must respectfully oppose any action that would move the Main page from where it is now. I too believe that the current setup is fine the way it is, and the main page content makes it quite obvious what it is that we are visiting (as if the big H*R wiki icon on the top left wasn't a big enough hint ;).) I originally thought changing the MediaWiki:Mainpage text as well, but the first line right under the title already says Homestar Runner Wiki. Finally, I am concerned (only in a very minor way) that even though it be a redirect, not all links, internal or external, would work in the same way (of course that's the paranoid in me talkin' :) ). --Stux 01:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
