Cardboard Homestar is Homestar Runner's replacement while he "is on vacation". No one but Marzipan is aware of this, but Homestar was actually locked in a room in Marzipan's House, and was replaced by Cardboard Homestar. He only appears to be able to say "Marzipan, you're so smart". He is a reference to Cardboard Marzipan, with whom he has a conversation with in an Easter egg of Quality Time.
Marzipan is his ventriloquist.
