Er, I think you're a little unclear on what the "Fast Forward" category means. A fact in "Fast Forward" - which only really applies when the Fun Facts are split - directly refers to something that hadn't yet happened when the toon was created. Meanwhile, an Inside Reference directly refers to something that HAD happened before the toon's creation (and is on the H*R website, but I'm sure you figured that much out on your own.)
The terms "forward reference" and "backwards reference" refer to facts in Fast Forward and the two Reference categories, respectively.
Thus, your mention of montage in lackey fails Inside References in two ways - it's not a direct reference (the events of lackey don't refer to the events of montage or vice-versa) and it's not backwards. And although I'd definitely agree with you that the fact was useless and wrong, the remark that "this is the only time Homsar's words have made sense" is NOT a forward reference because it's not referring to anything.
