Mr. Bland is a character from the original book that started the Homestar Runner body of work. In the book, he entered the Strongest Man in the World contest. Strong Sad's head seems to be based on this much older character. His arms seem to spread sideways in default as opposed to resting on his side. Mr. Bland was apparently one of the most popular characters until he was crushed by a falling Bubs' Concession Stand along with Señor (seen in origins).
In Strongest Man in the World, a Flash remake of the original book, he was given a voice for the first time. For over a year, the Wiki incorrectly reported that Mr. Bland's voice in Strongest Man in the World was provided by Mike Chapman. This was corrected after Matt Chapman revealed that this was a mistake during the hidden creators' commentary of Strongest Man in the World on the DVD Everything Else, Volume 3.
