HRWiki:Changing username
From Homestar Runner Wiki
The user name users choose for themselves is no longer set in stone. On request, Bureaucrats can change user account settings and article histories such that all previous edits of a given user are attributed to the new name using Special:Renameuser. Note: You must make the request from the account you want renamed; anonymous requests (except users whose usernames begin with a lowercase letter and therefore cannot log in) are ignored for security reasons.

Requesting a change
- To change your user name, please make your request on this page.
Instructions
Please follow the procedure carefully or your request will not be fulfilled.
- Check if the new name you want does not exist (Special:Listusers). Do not create an account under the new name. (If you already created the new account, don't worry. We can do some stuff and fix it, but it's still recommended that you don't.)
- Sign in with the account that you want renamed.
- Of course, this is not possible if your account has a lowercase first letter. If you can't log in, then skip this step.
- Add your request in the section below.
- If you are a sysop, please note this fact with your request so that the necessary changes can be made.
- Once your request is dealt with, all edits from your old account will be reattributed to your new account.
- You should check that the old account has been recreated and blocked to prevent someone else creating the account and impersonating you.
- This cannot be done in the case of usernames with a lowercase first letter, but they can no longer be registered so this isn't a problem.
- Move and redirect your user page and talk page to the new name if it has not already been done.

Can I get my username deleted? When I type in the main character of my website into AOL search, I get Homestar Wiki stuff.
- You're bound to show up through HRWiki; it's not like we're remote. And no, your username can not be deleted. — Lapper (talk) 22:50, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Rob
Can you please change my username from "Rainer" to "Rob", and if possible, change my username on the fanstuff wiki and the forum. Thanks in advance! «Rob» 11:06, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, also, if "Rob" is already taken on the forum (I haven't checked), "Rob123" is fine for there. «Rob» 11:08, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

AIK_74 -> thecolorofinsanity
please. i wrould rrly appreceate it! — AIK 74 (Talk | contribs) 20:12, 11 May 2006 (UTC) (left unsigned)
- "thecolorofinsanity" is not a valid username. -- Tom 20:16, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- And I just realized you just had your name changed once already, less than two weeks ago. No, you can't change it again. -- Tom 21:37, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
well, how about telling me as to WHY IT ISN'T VALID. vulgar? profane? obscene? too long? needs more pudding? you just hate me? stinkoman the god said so? this is all a big ripoff to destroy my entire social lead in life? *whew* - AIK 74
- It isn't valid because the first letter is lowercase. Please read the instructions at the top of the page for more information. But it doesn't matter, because as I said, I'm not going to change your name again. -- Tom 22:04, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
well, then, can i get a second account if i want said specified user name? and made it according to the user name making rules? - AIK 74
- No, creating a known sockpuppet will cause the sockpuppet to be blocked from editing. -- Tom 21:16, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - AIK 74
Tampo -->Irnakk
Can I have my name changed to Irnakk? Tampo (T/C) 21:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Because you've established such a legacy for yourself as Tampo. Also, the next time you shout at me or any other person, I'm going to restrict your editing privileges indefinitely. -- Tom 22:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- No. -- Tom 22:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Mind if I field this one? It means that when you say "User:Tampo", most people familiar with the wiki know who you're talking about. That's your legacy. --DorianGray
- No. -- Tom 22:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Almost a bureaucrat? There's no such thing. Seriously, these matters are decided on a case by case basis. You do not have the standing here to question my decision in this way. As such, please mind your own business. -- Tom 22:41, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Count X --> «Âpðçã£ýpX» or Âpðçã£ýpX
I wouldn't prefer the latter, but it's the (PEOPLE WHO CHANGE NAMES)'s decision. Count X Talk Email
- I would call this a very complicaded and hard to read and pronounce name. --Dacheatbot · Communicate 22:05, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think it would be pronounced "Ahp-thsa-pound-ipcks", but I'm not quite sure how ã is supposed to be pronounced (it's a Portuguese letter with no equivalent phoneme in English), and the "th" of ð is supposed to be the voiced th, like in "them", which is hard to pronounce when followed by the "s" of ç. And no, I don't think this name change is going to happen – we prefer names that you can actually read, none of this neo-1337 buisness. If you ask for "ApocalypX" you have a better chance – I'm not going to say it will, as it's the admin's decision, but it's certainly more likely than your gibberish. How do you propose to type that into Special:Userlogin, anyway? phlip TC 04:17, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Most people who use a standard English-language keyboard (which includes the vast majority of HRWiki users) prefer that other users' names be easy to read and, especially, easy to type. Therefore, the best names use only letters (and, occasionally, numbers and symbols) from the standard ASCII character set. Non-Latin or Unicode-only characters are really frowned upon, and even characters in the extended Latin 1 character set can be a hassle. (We overlook it in cases like Heimstern Läufer because (1) his name actually means something and (2) it would be grammatically incorrect otherwise.) All that to say, sorry, we're not gonna change your name to that mess. — It's dot com 04:52, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Count X --> ApocalypX
