- If there's something floating to one side of the text, then this template forces whatever follows it to be moved to underneath that floated object. For example:
Text before the "clear".
Text after the "clear".
- It's usually used so that floated images don't intrude on headers, if they're too close together and would otherwise look bad... especially floated-left images. Look at Marshmallow's Last Stand (place) for instance – if the Appearances section was next to the image on the left it would look ugly... some of the bullet points would be shifted across, but the ones after the image would go back to the left margin... just generally bad.
