At least one member of TBC did cover Daniel Johnston's song "Some Things Last a Long Time" under the name Mark Margarine (see http://www.thoraxcorp.com/mp3s/Mark%20Margarine/Covers%20Annex/, though they attribute it to Built to Spill instead), but you're probably right that it's too much of a stretch. --JohnnyLurg 21:03, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm gonna throw an idea out here.
-
Was that from I Robot? 04:25, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
+
*I think I've mentioned it before but HR says a lot of unusual similes. Like "Fresh as a bagel", "Pure as a mountain goat" and "like falling of a web van". I'll try to think of more, but it seems to be a unique part of his vernacular style.
-
:I need more. Who said it? 04:25, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

You'd probably remember examples I forgot. I was wondering if you thought this was notable and/or pageworthy. 06:05, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

::Susan said it. 04:27, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

:Interesting idea. I'll try to come up with some more. "two breads in a biscuit" is a good one. And "smack it like a newborn's biscuit". There's probably more. I'm surprised we don't have a page on it, it's a pretty clear running joke. 06:11, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
-
:::Correct. 04:28, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

:: Awesome. I'll go do some "research". I love how we can call watching cartoons "research". 06:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
 +
::: Heh. Research. I often wonder why I bother. Then I remember how much fun it is. Anyway, it's much easier to create a page for something like Confetti or Grapes, because you can just search the wiki for all occurrences of the term. These jokes which follow a similar pattern are much harder to find and much harder to ensure completeness for, and require, as you say, research. 06:16, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

:::: I'll do confetti. 06:19, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey I'm complaining. I got the pirates line the moment you said it to me online, and you know it. You asked the question in response to something I wrote. I also got all your other quotes instantly. Why did you undo my edit? I watch Homestar cartoons without sound all the time, and there are instances where the "hide text and then display text for some reason" effect actually causes me to miss a word or phrase. In almost all cases, it's completely unnecessary and just looks tacky. 20:34, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
-
Well, I don't appreciate any of this, either, even though I'm most likely the one that started it. Like I said, I have autism and I'm not lying (however you spell that word). Not being able to control my anger is a "side effect." Now, I know you're going to say that what I just said has nothing to do with this, but it does. I know people don't believe me and I'm sorry if I offended you, but I see no rules about anything anywhere, because of the obviously stupid person that I am. I know I'm going to be labeled as an idiot now, so I'm afraid to make an account and put the name "Taiya" up anywhere. I listened again to caffeine and I still don't hear anything. The quote of the week was from a later part in the email, and I probably won't believe the "real thing" any time soon. Oh, well. I don't care if anyone hates me. I just wanted to help the Homestar universe because I suck at doing anything else.

:Those are there for a reason, namely to simultaneously not spoil the joke until the point where the punchline is said, and also show the punchline on the screen in the context of the full sentence. I see no reason to remove them, and it was not appropriate for you to unilaterally decide to do so without discussing it first. I'm also unsure why this conversation is going on on my talk page rather than somewhere more relevant (like on the subtitles page for that toon, or on the project page for subtitles as a whole). 21:01, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

DeFender, you say "stop revert warring", yet you also were revert warring. Does that seem right to you? If you felt talk page discussion was so important, why didn't you initiate it? :I was reverting because the fact was originally written like that, and i was saying to discuss it before just removing it. Now that I think about it, you're right, I should probably have just let it go, discussed it, and let it be resolved, after all, does it really matter if it's on the page during the discussion, as long as it ends up the way the community decides it should? I apologize, and will try to be less agressive in the future. 18:33, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Undoing legitimate edits
Are you saying that my transcript edits are too much? How can they? I'm just adding things that weren't described before.<br>If we all of a sudden lose this video from the website or the Internet, who else will people rely on?<br>There are still a lot of things to edit on this website, and I don't see how they will be edited if we don't talk this out. Eh?<br>
-
If you're going to undo an edit that looks suspicious but that might turn out to be correct (like ), please leave a note on the original editor's talk page or on a high-visibility talk page informing someone of what action you took, in case it turns out the edit was indeed legitimate and should not have been reverted (as was the case here). Something like, "Hey, I noticed you made X important change to such-and-such page. What was your basis for this edit?" Thanks, and keep on tranglin'. &mdash; It's dot com 03:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

:Re: losing the video: It's possible there's someone that saves all the swfs. The kitkorp mirror saved swfs up to a certain point and the Internet Archive Wayback Machine probably has most of them saved too. Not fully sure how A Jumping Jack Contest, Marshmallow's Last Stand and other removed sections of the site got mirrored but it could likely have been from one of those. 21:14, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Regarding my removal of all evil acts from Strong Bad Smiling, there was a discussion a few months ago over whether that gag was notable since his usual personality is not the direct opposite of happy (like Strong Sad).  It was suggested on the talk page that the notablility would be improved by removing times he smiled because he did something bad. The question I was referring to in my headline was that "why?" in your edit summary. I apologize if I am too vague. You can say your opinion on the SB Smiling talk page. I was going to change this, but I see you reverted this change once, so I figured I'd bring it up with you first.  According to the wikipedia article, the character is actually spelled like the star (ie "Betelgeuse") despite the fact the title is spelled differently.  But I can see this could be confusing - most people more easily recognize the title spelling, so... should it just be left, though it's technically incorrect? Would you mind if it was changed back?Farmboyjad 04:32, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

:Leave it, I actually think wikipedia is wrong, why would the title character of a movie's name be spelled differently than the name of the movie itself? And i just read the wikipedia article, it makes no mention of the spelling, just always calls him "beetlejuice". Finally, this is the sort of thing for the talk page of an article itself, not my personal talk page. 12:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

(I am also leaving the same message to SamFisher1022 and Sam the Man.)  As established editors I believe you handled poorly the welcoming of this user.  Instead of providing a more welcoming and inviting message, you have a quick edit war of sorts in someone else's user talk page.  Imagine how a new user would feel seeing this kind of mysterious edit summary arguments going on. This sort of behavior could easily turn away prospective editors (good or not so much).  I think in general we've established a bad habit of quick reverts with a simple edit summary and no explanation.  Friendly but informative notices to less established users should be the norm, not the exception. --Stux 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello DeFender1031, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks, 21:55, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

::Michael, Defender is not destroying your work. He has no power to do so, as I've no doubt he would affirm. If your work is deleted, it will be because the community, not Defender, decides that it is not needed. Furthermore, I don't appreciate the cut of your jib. While I know it's frustrating to see your work nominated for deletion, replying by being impatient and rude isn't OK. In particular, your line "i just don't put up with crud crap like that much anymore" sounds a bit like a threat to me. You are correct in saying that a Kilobyte contains 1024, but the reason your 200GB drive is only 189GB is because of the file structure. If you format it as NTSF (XPs standard I think) it's going to take quite a chunk away and allocate that as file meta-data. So you don't get to directly write to that part of the drive. If you formatted it in, say, Fat16 you'd probably get an additional Gig or two because of the way the file tables are stored. Thus, the OS will report the number of bytes available for the user to write to.

[edit] Nebulon

At least one member of TBC did cover Daniel Johnston's song "Some Things Last a Long Time" under the name Mark Margarine (see http://www.thoraxcorp.com/mp3s/Mark%20Margarine/Covers%20Annex/, though they attribute it to Built to Spill instead), but you're probably right that it's too much of a stretch. --JohnnyLurg 21:03, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

I searched the wiki for other references before reverting. It still seems too much of a stretch, unless they say so in a commentary or something. — Defender1031*Talk 21:10, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

[edit] Ideas

I'm gonna throw an idea out here.

 • I think I've mentioned it before but HR says a lot of unusual similes. Like "Fresh as a bagel", "Pure as a mountain goat" and "like falling of a web van". I'll try to think of more, but it seems to be a unique part of his vernacular style.

You'd probably remember examples I forgot. I was wondering if you thought this was notable and/or pageworthy. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 06:05, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Interesting idea. I'll try to come up with some more. "two breads in a biscuit" is a good one. And "smack it like a newborn's biscuit". There's probably more. I'm surprised we don't have a page on it, it's a pretty clear running joke. — Defender1031*Talk 06:11, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Awesome. I'll go do some "research". I love how we can call watching cartoons "research". --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 06:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Heh. — Defender1031*Talk 06:16, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
I'll do confetti. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 06:19, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, the point wasn't "do confetti, don't bother with the hard ones", it was just an observation about different kinds of pages. — Defender1031*Talk 06:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
I mean I'll do confetti right now, since it will be quicker. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 06:30, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Clean Ups

Sorry you and CatJaz have to clean up my TBD summer cleaning. I felt like the list needed to be trimmed but I guess I neglected some templates. Hopefully my "executive judgement" for merge/deletion consensus was mostly accurate. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 04:43, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Also, you should really archive your talk page. It's kind of annoying to scroll all the way down. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 04:50, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Looks like DeFender used to archive his talk pages annually. But, it seems he got bored of that idea seven years ago. - Catjaz63 04:53, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
It's 99 kilobytes long. That's a lot of bytes. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 04:57, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
I'll do it as soon as I catch up with all your edits... If I ever can catch up. — Defender1031*Talk 04:58, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry! I'll be more careful next time. Hopefully now we actually discuss these articles for discussion... --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 05:00, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for what? Careful about what? I rarely know what you're talking about, Coach Z. — Defender1031*Talk 05:02, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
For the inconvenience I guess. Er, gyorse. ;) --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 05:10, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I finally caught up with both your edits and my own talk page archive. Level up! — Defender1031*Talk 06:08, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Ding! Good prize. Also, nice nickname summary thing. May I ask what "1031" is? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 06:10, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
IT'S PERSONAL!!!! It's my birfday. — Defender1031*Talk 06:21, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

[edit] WTC

With regards to my "what the heck" edit, I reverted it because I figured a non-cropped image including the text we wanted was better than the alternative. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 20:06, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Ah. Didn't realize the anonny was you, and didn't realize why t image summary was being changed. Now it makes sense! — Defender1031*Talk 20:24, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Why did you revert the image back? No text was being removed or obscured and there are no fragments of the border. - Catjaz63 20:37, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Just realised that I didn't capture it with VCR-Have. WHOOPS - Catjaz63 20:40, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Shhh, I don't want people to know my IP address! (Whistles) --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 04:21, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
I freakin hate when I accimedentally do use my anon account and then accidentally say it was me not knowing I wasn't logged in. Dammit. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 04:23, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Broncotroll - Didn't it make you write a CAPTCHA? That's a sure sign you're not logged in. The Knights Who Say Ni 05:11, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Your revision of the Record Store Day subtitles

Why did you undo my edit? I watch Homestar cartoons without sound all the time, and there are instances where the "hide text and then display text for some reason" effect actually causes me to miss a word or phrase. In almost all cases, it's completely unnecessary and just looks tacky. MichaelXX2 mail_icon.gif link_icon.gif 20:34, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Those are there for a reason, namely to simultaneously not spoil the joke until the point where the punchline is said, and also show the punchline on the screen in the context of the full sentence. I see no reason to remove them, and it was not appropriate for you to unilaterally decide to do so without discussing it first. I'm also unsure why this conversation is going on on my talk page rather than somewhere more relevant (like on the subtitles page for that toon, or on the project page for subtitles as a whole). — Defender1031*Talk 21:01, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

Thank you so much for helping me get an account. Sorry for being such a pest earlier and thanks again XXEmoElephantXx 04:51, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

No problem. Glad it worked out. — Defender1031*Talk 05:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Now how do I get an account on the forum?24.216.222.15 20:24, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
The exact same way. - Catjaz63 21:07, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Hello!

Hi defender! Sorry I'm a bit out of practice here as you can see. I sort of drifted into the big pedia. I hope you are staying safe and happy! --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 18:32, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm good. Weclome back! — Defender1031*Talk 06:45, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
Ah, that magnificent spelling. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:08, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

[edit] Why DON'T we do that?

Are you saying that my transcript edits are too much? How can they? I'm just adding things that weren't described before.
If we all of a sudden lose this video from the website or the Internet, who else will people rely on?
There are still a lot of things to edit on this website, and I don't see how they will be edited if we don't talk this out. Eh?
- XY

Some of the descriptions were fine, but most were poorly worded, excessive, or over the top. Also the links to the images were unnecessary, which is the main thing I was referring to by "we don't do that". — Defender1031*Talk 17:25, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Re: losing the video: It's possible there's someone that saves all the swfs. It might be the time we change how we edit articles as a whole. This change may not seem comfortable,
but it is for the better. I'll see how it goes and we'll debate about it then. I'll try editing
Some Kinda Robot and see how that goes. I may not do it today, since March 7th, after all, it is my birthday.

Here we go!

Or, you could try, you know, being a team player and learning how this community functions rather than going against the grain and trying to change how we do things in a way which "may not seem comfortable". — Defender1031*Talk 23:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

[edit] Nice sig

You sig looks pretty cool and colorful. How did you do it (make it shady, I don't mean Bubs' shadiness), may I ask?

Thanks. I wrote a script a long time ago that generates the html necessary to display a gradient (that's the technical term for what you call "shady"). Basically, it's just each letter being a slighty different color than the previous one and shifting gradually (get it? GRADual, GRADient?) from one color to another. — Defender1031*Talk 22:23, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Using Show Preview

Hello Defender1031, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks, — Defender1031*Talk 15:35, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
