[edit] "we had to come up with some pretty creative ways to ite him into stories"
Yes, "write" seems to be a bit cut off. Can I or someone put that as a glitch? --Addict 2006 16:12, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Umm, it's clearly "write". — Defender1031*Talk 16:13, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- I do hear an audio click there in the word "write" like what would come from some not-so-seamless editing. Mayve it originally was "ite", and they fixed it by editing in the "wr".--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 02:47, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- It actually sounds like "get" to me. Jimmy91 18:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- He types "write", so it's safe to assume it's "write". 71.231.56.40 22:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- It does skip a little bit, but it's still audibly "write". The "i" is just kind of cut in half. — SamFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 23:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's supposed to be there to imply that Strong Bad was gone. 70.253.167.78 23:01, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Huh? The TBC would make it more obvious if that was there intention... whatever that means... 71.231.56.40 21:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Glitch
I was watching the toon while holding down the tab button to look for easter eggs, so at the end I was holding it down and the paper was just stuck there covering the whole screen of the lappy and the audio for the "downhill" easter egg played. Just thought I'd share rootbeersoup 18:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] On the flash file itself,
The second time that Strong Bad and Homestar try to make it look like "Original Bubs" is there (DEESH WARSH), "Concessions by Original Bubs" is written backwards!
[edit] Rock 'em Sock 'em Reference?
Wouldn't "Strong Bad's head popping up" be a reference to Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots? Just want to know before I add it on. : 75.33.123.41 21:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
No. If it was a Rock 'em Sock 'em reference, they would make it more obvious, and would make the animation look more like a Rock 'em Sock 'em robot. 71.231.56.40 22:45, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ya, you have a good point there. 75.33.123.41 22:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kick The Can
Did anyone find the Homestar/Marzipan Easter Egg an obvious reference to Kick The Can and/or The Reddest Radish? Bad Bad Guy 21:29, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- There have been a few can kicks done in HSR universe before, I don't think it would count. 75.33.123.41
- How? Because he kicks a can? That's a stretch. - Qermaq - (T/C) 21:38, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Because he kicks a can because he missed a loved one. Bad Bad Guy 21:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- He also kicks a can in Where My Hat Is At?. — Has Matt? (talk) 21:47, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Umm... The only closest reference to that is the toon "In Search of the Yello Dello" other than that I don't remember that happening in the HSRU... Oh, wait. "The Storm of '28," nevermind. 75.33.123.41
- Since Oldtimey Homestar did that, it made me think they were about to mention that Homestar had been a replacement himself, for the 'original' old Homestar.
- I've always thought can kicking was a running gag. In fact, I thought I saw a page on here about it once. Am I just imagining it? Well, if there's not, there should be.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 08:09, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shadow?
Also, when his head is popped up, his head's shadow does not move on his neck. The URL of the image is "vulomedia.com/images/65110Picture48.png" I don't think my brain is at its best today, would this be a shadow problem? I have some disagreement with that for some reason, no idea why. 75.33.123.41 22:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wait, did I say that right? 75.33.123.41 20:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] No "Click here to email strongbad"
Is it important to note that this is the first email to NOT have a "Click here to email strongbad" link? 67.177.36.237 23:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's not. See the section "Something" further up. Loafing 23:19, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Retirement - "It was me. I like hushpuppies." is not clickable. Original does have a "Click here to e-mail Strong Bad" link. It's just too quick for some people to click.
[edit] Letterman
- Strong Bad's mention of talk show hosts using guest hosts when they have surgery is a reference to David Letterman.
The above was removed from the article. I'm not going to do an exhaustive search, so I won't bother claiming Letterman is the only host to have undergone surgery, but he's certainly the most popular one in recent memory to do so, and I think it's very likely TBC would have had him (and only him) in mind as they wrote the line. The only person I can think of who has both had guest hosts and is as notable as Dave is Johnny Carson, but this section doesn't make any mention of a surgery. I think the link to Letterman should be restored, at least in some form. — It's dot com 01:00, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Regis too. But can anyone come up with a reference to a talk-show host in prison?--71.203.169.248 05:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, there have been several famous ones. In certain cases, we list two or three representative examples for things like this (like in bottom 10). Would this be something we'd want to do here, too? — It's dot com 23:22, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- I would have to say no. It's really explaining the joke - the fact writes itself from Strong Bad's own words. To wit: "Strong Bad talking about talk show hosts taking replacements when they have surgery is a reference to talk show hosts taking replacements when they have surgery [such as blah blah blah blah blah]." Kind of a useless fact. Surgery is near-universal in this day and age (at least among anyone with any money at all in America). --Jay (Gobble) 01:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, time off for surgery seems generic enough to be doubtfull as a refrence. On the other hand, prison does sound like it could be a refrence to something.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 05:41, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Manilla cheese choke?
In Homestar's Line to Senor Cardgage, I'm pretty sure I hear "manilla cheese choke" instead of "manilla cheese Coke".--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 02:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

- Hmmm. I usually stay out of the audio debates cause I don't know how to analyze the flash file and listen to the same two seconds 348 times in a row on $10,000 speakers like some people here seem to do, but I listened to it twice now and there's definitely something weird going on at the beginning of the word c(h)oke. Some kind of scientist 14:57, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] James Bond reference?
Does anyone else think the reference to replacing Original Bubs with an unknown that had zero experience (and it going 'downhill' from there) was a reference to the James Bond series? I mean, that's exactly what George Lazenby was - an unknown with zero experience. And the wide opinion is that the series DEFINITELY went downhill from there.
- It's a reference to many instances of jumping the shark. Lots of people consider replacing an actor as an instance of when the show begins to decline. --DorianGray 05:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Paper
After subsequent watchings of this email, it appears that the new printer prints the "Click here to email Strong Bad" in landscape... therefore, it must be a wide format inkjet... anyone else agree? mister t 18:32, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- On pausing, it looks like it's just a half sheet in regular orientation. Either that, or really long paper in landscape.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 05:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rock horns
Just being nerdy and throwing it out there, but the .\m/ emoticon could also represent the Floppy the Banjo Clown Hand Puppet. I know we're not gonna change it or anything, just pointing it out. --Jesse2 19:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
-That's a stretch, especially since I'd never heard of that when I wrote the email.
- Did someone mention Banjo clown hand puppets? But no, given the mention of "horns" right next to the emoticon, I think that the corna is a safe assumption, as opposed to a tongue-in-cheek website that's making reference to the corna anyways. --phlip TC 14:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Great Eyesight
Is the fact that original Bubs has "good eyesight" due to the fact that New Bubs has had to squint just to see something like the sign that says 'Duck A L'Orange' when Strong Bad held it up in lunch special? --Abelhawk 00:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's due to the fact that OB's eyes are the same shape and size. --Trogga 02:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, I guess that's true... should this be an explanation? Or just never mind? --Abelhawk 01:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Just a notice
Oh, and by the way, I don't think this is a valid remark: "Bubs saying that he has no thumbs is a reference to his lack of visible fingers." 'Lack of visible fingers' redirects to 'lack of visible arms.' Bubs HAS arms, and he's not really referring to anything that has to do with them, but rather just maknig a random comment about himself. I don't think it's part of that running gag. --Abelhawk 01:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'd agree but I have no strong emotional attachment either way. If other people want to keep it I won't argue. Some kind of scientist 01:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe we should make No Visible Fingers. It could include Bubs, The Cheat, Strong Bad, and The Blacksmith, and typing with boxing gloves would fit nicely into it.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 03:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'd agree but I have no strong emotional attachment either way. If other people want to keep it I won't argue. Some kind of scientist 01:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Invisible digits is different from ABSENT digits. Bubs says he doesn't have any. Otherwise he'd stick his thumbs, invisible or otherwise, into his pits. 76.247.45.121 16:55, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] That toothpick sculpture
Does anyone else see that as a crappy Eiffel Tower? --204.132.36.129 03:43, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I thought it was, until I read about it being the Statue of Liberty, which I can see once I stare at it long enough. It's that one lone toothpick going up, off to the side, that really cements the possibility. --DorianGray 03:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't really look like anything. Leastways nothing I recognize. Maybe the Leaning Tower of Eiffel. But, if it is something specific, I'd think it would have something to do with Homestars African garb.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 05:54, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I originally thought it was the Eiffel Tower as well, but on a second viewing, it doesnt look like either very much. If its the statue of liberty, it doesnt have a head, and if its the eiffel tower, it has a big extra bit on the left side -Jdhannan 15:27, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I admit it's not very detailed, but it looks way more like a crappy Statue of Liberty than a crappy Eiffel Tower or giraffe. The basic features of the Statue are there: the torch, the base, even the tablet she's holding up. Yeah, the head could have used a bit more work, but overall it's a pretty faithful reproduction. Look at the image on the right and tell me if you still disagree. — Has Matt? (talk) 01:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- That is a very compelling picture, but I'm still not convinced it's more than a coincidence, and that it can be as easily be sculpture of other of things (or just a crappy sculpture). That said, I won't object if it is put back in the article. 74.136.198.194 02:11, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- I definitely see the eiffel tower when I view the toon, but when you look at just a still image of the sculpture, I guess I can see how it might be the statue of liberty. The extension on the top left could easily be the torch hand, but the four pillar base and general structure looks much more like the eiffel tower. I don't really feel like analyzing it further so whatever everyone else agrees on is ok with me.Some kind of scientist 03:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Should the graveyard be considered a place?
We see the graveyard in an easter egg in this toon. It has been seen at least once before(in retirement, though how cannon both appearances are is up for debate)
Should we consider this a separate place or just part of the field?
217.237.86.55sinfoidulus September 5, 2007

[edit] If I had thumbs, I'd be sticking 'em up my armpits
Am I missing something, or is it just random nonsense? Because if it has some sort of meaning, to stick ones thumbs up your armpits, in america, it should probably be noted. Lord-z 21:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- In times past, people would hook their thumbs under their suspenders (braces for you Brits) toward the shoulders and pull them out slightly in a sign of self-satisfaction. Honestly, I don't know that this ever happened anywhere but TV shows. Regardless, sometimes people will emulate this motion without suspenders. I don't know that anyone would ever put their thumbs in their armpits (that just seems awkward), but that's surely what they're referring to. ---- Wfaulk 23:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's just random nonsense, not referring to anything. — It's dot com 02:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's certainly a real thing, a real indication of someone strutting. Quoting the following isn't real...proof or basis, like...a clown...playing a banjo, but it's a real thing.
- I just tried putting my thumbs in my armpits and I'm pretty sure I sprained something. Also, I had to lift my arms up to get them in my armpits. -Snorkledork
[edit] Green Belt
Noticed that Senator Cardgage Bubs is wearing a green belt, which seems noteworthy as, just like Onion Bubs, its a feature absent on original bubs but found on actual bubs. -Telamon 21:55, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cheap reference??
Does anyone else think the "Cheaper Tricks" sign on Original Bubs' stand might be a reference to the band Cheap Trick? Just throwing it out there as a possibility. Some kind of scientist 03:14, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ha ha! You know, I think I'd be willing to go for that.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 04:14, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- While I'd be willing to say this might be possible if the randomest possibilities came into play, no. This is in no way a Cheap Trick reference. - Qermaq - (T/C) 04:18, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, the way it fits with "Cheap Thrills" means it's most likely not intentional. But it's still hillarious to think about: Cheap Trick—Cheaper Tricks. Like I always say, if the H*R Wiki was run my way, it would be included. But I guess a mention on the talk page is good enough.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 04:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Come on, come on, come on, don't be cruel. Don't let those voices make you surrender. I know that you can argue that everything works if you let it, but this was note was up right before Original Bubs decided to "Say Goodbye," and it then went into a VH1 Behind the Music typie "but then it all changed." I know it says E! True HOllywood Stories, but ain't that a shame, it's much more VH1's BTM, and Bubs's always been about music.--71.203.169.248 00:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Definitely behind that refrigerator box"
I tried to think of something that scene referenced, and the closest thing I could think of was that Cosby Show doccumentary; they explain that when the actress who played Cleo was pregnant she had to hide behind stuff like paper bags or giant teddy bears while filming. Bad Bad Guy 00:02, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Happened on many TV shows. And what a stretch! I think no, frankly. - Qermaq - (T/C) 00:28, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Could it be a reference to the general trend of pregnant TV actresses hiding behind random objects? Bad Bad Guy 01:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know about pretending that a character was present and hidden. The episode of Dick Van Dyke where Laura got stuck in the bathtub does come to mind, but as far as I know that was a bonafide plot device, not just a workaround. But mainly the whole "creative ways to write him into stories" sequence made me think of Suzanne Somers on Three's Company. When her outrageous salary demands for the 1980 season weren't met, she went on strike. For the rest of the season, she wouldn't attend the usual tapings on set. The producers wouldn't fire her until the next season, so her character "moved away" but still appeared one minute per episode, in a phone conversation with another character. The "you amateurs" bad blood was also present, but in the other direction: John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt were furious over this stunt and refused to speak to her. --TheNicestGuy 15:32, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Nothing
Is Bubs' mention of not having thumbs really a reference to lack of visible appendages? He is openly saying he does not have them, and has not, in my memory, been involved in any instances of manipulation that would specifically require thumbs. If it were about invisible fingers I could maybe see a reference. Perhaps Bubs just has stumps that can manipulate objects, much like The Cheat, who receives no such referential treatment
- Bubs's shotgun. He had to have fingers to use it, right? Same with installing the new paper, taping up the VCR in the old e-mail 12:00, and more.--CoachG 16:12, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Powered by The Cheat music?
The music you hear as Original Bubs walks away sounds something related to Powered-by-The-Cheat cartoons. I was considering making this bit rewritten as follows: {Original Bubs walks away as Powered-by-The-Cheat-esque music is playing. ......} I've added ellipses just to save some space for anymore headlines/replies. --Charlie Jr. 03:05, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
