[edit] Transcript {The scene opens on the Lappy 486, with Strong Bad nowhere to be seen. The wind howls. After a few seconds, Female Lappy 486 appears on screen with the second note of the Lappy start-up noise.}
FEMALE LAPPY 486: {the words appear on the screen as she says them} Oh. Golly-gosh. Strong Bad is understairs. Tell whim I love.
{Quick drop to the Basement. Strong Bad is lying on the couch; Strong Sad is standing behind it.}
STRONG SAD: You get your shiny, round butt up in there and check that email!
STRONG BAD: No! Now, get out of my couch...area!
STRONG SAD: But it's your sesquicentenn-email!
STRONG BAD: I don't wanna turn a hundred and fifty! It's too much pressure! Strong Mad ate it!
STRONG SAD: It's okay, I can help! Check out these storyboards I drew up!
{Strong Bad strains his neck to view the storyboard. Cut to a storyboard showing Strong Bad's boxing gloves on the Lappy 486's keyboard. Slow piano music starts. Above, it says "Scene 1" and "Int. Lappy-Day"; below, "Close on tip-tapping boxing gloves".}
STRONG SAD: We begin with a claustrophobic close-up of typing with boxing gloves on.
{Cut to a storyboard showing the facts. Strong Bad claiming that he "doesn't want to turn 150" could be a reference to an Easter egg in flashback, where Duckie Shirt Homestar says "Happy Hundredth Birthday, Strong Bad!" The storyboard at the end is titled "Up in your grill". Bubs used the word "grill" in a very similar way in replacement, when he said he'd "kick you in the grill!" Strong Sad mentions a jelly donut. Strong Bad says "Strong Mad ate it" as an excuse. This is a reference to the Email Processing Room. [edit] Real-World References Homestar's mask is the same style as the masks worn by Snifits in the NES game Super Mario Bros. 2. David Lynch and Federico Fellini, as referenced by Strong Sad, are filmmakers known for bizarre imagery. Steve Buscemi, also referenced by Strong Sad, is primarily known as a character actor who has appeared in such films as Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Ghost World but has also directed quirky, independent films such as Trees Lounge and Lonesome Jim. The music playing during Strong Sad's storyboard seems to be taken from the intro to U2's song "So Cruel". Pilotwings is a flight simulation game and one of the first SNES games made. Jellyfish Reflector is the name of Guided by Voices' 1996 live album. [edit] Fast Forward As the last scene claimed, the 150th email (alternate universe) was released the following week. In an Easter egg, the Coach Z storyboard scene is played out with similar music to the music used during the storyboards. Though not all his storyboards are used in the 150th email, Strong Bad does accept Strong Sad's help in playing guitar for the email's intro song. The music is a variation on the piano ballad played during the storyboards. The word sesquicentenn-email was used by Strong Bad in the 150th email during the number one jam. [edit] DVD Version Not counting Museum content or Secret Pages, this is the first toon to go through a drastic name change for DVD. The DVD title of the toon is "Sbemail 149.5". The DVD version features creators' commentary. To access it, switch your DVD player's audio language selection while watching. [edit] Commentary Transcript (Commentary by: Mike Chapman, Matt Chapman)
MIKE: This one, like the, uh, the hundred— the hundredth email, didn't we take a week in between the 99th and the hundredth?
MATT: Yeah, I think so. We needed time to gear up for that stuff. {pause} We still probably did it in two days.
MIKE: Right.
MATT: And just didn't sleep at all. {laughing} But we had to take the...
MIKE: It's like how, whenever I get a call that I'm due for a dentist appointment, I need like a week of prep time. {Matt laughs} And so they're like, "Oh, we've got an opening tomorrow and you're due." And I'm like—
MATT: "No, no, no."
MIKE: "Oh, no, that's no good for me. How 'bout next week?" And that's— that's fine, then.
MATT: Uh, didn't— we had an email idea a long time ago, that was gonna be storyboards.
MIKE: Yeah.
MATT: This was kinda using that idea. Um, I s— I think that Strong Sad's way into storyboards. {pause} Umm, that's gross. That's very gross. Which you end up getting to see, right? In the— As an Easter egg in the 150th...
MIKE: In the 150th, yeah. I, um, had a kewpie doll in college that I covered with, uh, eyeballs.
MATT: Did you?
MIKE: Yeah, I think just the head, I covered with little miniature googly eyes.
MATT: Our friend, Dave, made our friend, Adam, this, uh, thing out of a fake pear, where you put, like, action figure arms and a head on this fake pear. It's kinda creepy.
{The storyboard showing a jelly donut with Strong Bad's reflection appears on screen}
MIKE: I don't know why we didn't make that real Easter egg.
MATT: Yeah.
MIKE: We could go to Dunkin' Donuts and buy a few jelly— jelly donuts to...
MATT: Oh, Pilotwings! What else? Pilotwings, ActRaiser, Super Bomberman.
MIKE: Super Contra.
MATT: Super Contra. Don't bother. All up in yo' grill.
[edit] Fun Facts The video game titles Pilotwings, ActRaiser, Super Bomberman, and Super Contra are all things Strong Bad has mumbled while on the couch. [edit] See Also Not the 100th Email!!!
