This template attempts to workaround a problem in the MediaWiki software where redirects to sections of articles are only redirected to the top of the article. This is done by forcing the end user to click through on something, which in my opinion is worse. See also MetaWikiPedia:Help:Redirect#A redirect to an anchor and the bug. -- Tom 18:15, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Please note that this template is not and will not be used in articles. I'd delete it right now, but then this explanation wouldn't be here. I just went through and subst-ed all the templates to prepare for the pending deletion. -- Tom 06:23, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

If one wants to link to another website, they can use the external link format. If they'd like to customize that format for use on a user page, they can do so on an individual basis. -- Tom 07:21, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
