Ultra FunMachine OCD

On the cover of the magazine, I originally transcribed the console in the top-right corner as ULTRA FUNMACHINE OD. I know it's supposed to be CD, but if you look at the other C's along the top, it doesn't match. It looks more like the O's. I can kind of see a tiny notch missing that suggests a C (or it might just be "wear" from "age"), but it's weird that the font would be different for just that one letter. — It's dot com 22:30, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Oh. Yeah, I see what you mean. About the notch and the other C's. The only thing that might resolve this is to find the original font used there and see what uppercase C's look like. The other C's are in the middle of words and could be "lowercase" C's in that font. Also of less interest are the E's: they have the same kind of curvature as the O's and our mystery C. We also can't rule out that the O was photoshopped to look like a C. In fact, I'm rather inclined to leave the text as a "C" because the notch is noticeable enough and the gap on the E's is almost as faint! --Stux 22:47, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

I also noticed after taking a closer look at the cover: the fading makes the cover white. This can be seen even in the center of the "C". And zooming in, the pixels definitely look darker in the notch. This further strengthens the notion that the notch is deliberate and indicative that it's meant to be a "C".

I think you're onto something with the "uppercase" and "lowercase" letterforms. I just noticed that the S is also different depending on where it falls in the word (compare SUPER to PANTSIT). Also I went back and watched the source in full resolution motion instead of relying on the screenshot and it's definitely a C. I attempted an automated search of the font but haven't turned anything up yet. Maybe someone knows what it is and will chime in. — It's dot com 23:59, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

Ooo! Nice catch on the S's! They are definitely different. I bet even the upper case E's are different too. Too bad we haven't been able to identify the font. Either way, I think this is another solid nail in the coffin. --Stux 02:08, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Usury vs Usery

So, there is some disagreement regarding the phrase "the future of computer usery|usury" as spoken by VIDELECTRIX ONE. The original transcript had "usery", it was then changed to "usury" and somebody changed it back to "usery". However, I'm starting to think that said person, who shall remain nameless, was wrong about their most recent revert. I re-played the video a few times and to me it sounds like he's pronouncing "usury" and not something that sounds closer to the word "user" (which I'd expect to slightly alter the pronunciation of the word "usery"). In short, I don't think they're perfect homophones. On the other hand, VIDELECTRIX ONE's accent is unique.

I'd like to get everyone's opinions on this matter, not just to update the transcript, but also so we can straighten out its related fun facts (such as this one or the nounery one). Cheers! --Stux 02:08, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

When I first watched the toon, I immediately thought usury, but also it's one of my favorite words because of this Simpsons bit, so I don't know if that influenced me. It seemed like a weird thing to be a malapropism, so I was fine with it being changed back to -e-. Listening again, I can definitely still hear the -u-, but like you say that could just be his weird accent. If I had to choose one, I'd lean toward -u-, but only slightly. — It's dot com 02:29, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
