The user name users choose for themselves is no longer set in stone. On request, Bureaucrats can change user account settings and article histories such that all previous edits of a given user are attributed to the new name using Special:Renameuser. Note - you must make the request from the account you want renamed; anonymous requests are ignored for security reasons.

Requesting a change

  1. To change your user name, please make your request on this page.

Instructions

Please follow the procedure carefully or your request will not be fulfilled.

  1. Check the new name you want does not exist (Special:Listusers). Do not create an account under the new name. (If you already created the new account, don't worry. Tom can do some stuff and fix it, but it's still recommended that you don't.)
  2. Sign in with the account that you want renamed.
Of course, this is not possible if your account has a lowercase first letter. If you can't log in, then skip this step.
  3. Add your request in the section below.
  4. If you are a sysop, please note this fact with your request so that the necessary changes can be made.
  5. Once your request is dealt with, all edits from your old account will be reattributed to your new account.
  6. You should check that the old account has been recreated and blocked to prevent someone else creating the account and impersonating you.
This can not be done in the case of lowercase first letter usernames, but they can no longer be registerd so this isn't a problem.
  7. You will probably want to move and redirect your userpage and talk page after changing.

Bkmlb

minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 18:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC) Only the conributions if possible

Okay, what username would you like to change it to? -- Tom 19:41, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Can I just have the contributions from bkmlb and Bkmlb. transfered to Bkmlb? I don't care deeply but it would be nice.--minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 19:44, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Please see step number 1 above. Since you already created the account for Bkmlb, I'd have to delete the Bkmlb account in the database in order to move bkmlb there. I can't make any promises, but we could try it if you want. -- Tom 19:56, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Okay, try that.--minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 20:42, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Done. -- Tom 21:23, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks!!--minibaseball.png Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 22:09, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Mibluvr13

I'd like my contributions moved from mibluvr13 to Mibluvr13. I'm okay with deleting my current account to do this. -- Mibluvr13 20:41, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I'll be deleting Mibluvr13 and moving mibluvr13 there now. Hang on to your hat. -- Tom 20:42, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Bwa ha ha ha! I even managed to keep the edits you've made as Mibluvr13. Okay, now, just for consistency's sake, I'm going to block User:mibluvr13 so no one will ever be able to register with that name. (I know they can't now with the lowercase thing, but maybe that will change someday. Who knows?) Thanks for being the test case. -- Tom 21:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! I've even got my watchlist back. W00tness! -- Mibluvr13 21:17, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
Very good. And I can't block User:mibluvr13. No one will be able to register for that name for the same reason I can't block it. Works well enough, I suppose. Now don't forget the rest of the steps. -- Tom 21:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
