pledge drive vs fund raiser
This might be splitting hairs but, this isn't actually a pledge drive. A pledge drive is where people corespond and promise to pay a certain amount at a later date (often in monthly installments). I used to work the phones for several famous pledge drives and I never took payments; just promises to pay. So inactually this isn't a pledge drive (as catchy as that sounds). This is more of a fund raiser since we are just collecting money. I R F

- You've got a point. For the next one, maybe? -- Tom 06:45, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- A Pledge Drive is an "extended period of fundraising activities" say Wikipedia. The term "pledge" is because they originally pledged to donate at monthly intervals. So whether or not you'd consider this an extended period or not would determine if it's a pledge drive. I like the name, though. SaltyTalk! 04:21, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Also, in a fundraiser, you're usually selling something and donating the earnings to whatever it is you're raising funds for, or having an event or walkathon or something of the sort. SaltyTalk! 04:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- As IRF mentioned, the term "pledge" hints at a promise of payment, whereas we get the money right when it's PayPal'd to Joey. That's why Wikipedia used the term when people promised to pay at future monthly intervals. And we are quite literally raising funds for the wiki. -- Tom 04:38, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Whatever happened to...
Seriously, whatever happened to the original potentially profitable plan of having hrwiki act as a "server farm" of sorts for other websites? --Stux 18:11, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's still going on, sorta. The exact details at this point are:
To recoup some of our server cost, we also offer a non-profit hosting service on our server called FellowSites. If you're currently paying to host a website, we would encourage you to switch to our service. You'll be supporting the wiki and we might even be able to save you some money. To find out more about FellowSites, check out the website or contact us.
- I know it's been over a year now since Joey said he'd do it, but it's just taking him a while to set it up. -- Tom 18:26, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
