This is how I would arrange "Fun Facts" sections. The facts in question have all been taken from the animal e-mail. Some that I would rather not keep were not included for the sake of this page.

I think that you split them right, but there seems to be something special about the title "Fun Facts" that distinguishes it from "Trivia". Basically, are people going to want to weed through all of this in order to get to the interesting stuff? Or maybe I should say, put Explanations first and Trivia second. Fun Facts Avenger
I agree that perhaps the "Trivia" section should be split or trimmed, but I don't know how to explain the split in a way everyone will agree on. As for the order, that was totally arbitrary. The only problem is the amount of time this will take. I'm hoping that my plan to split the fun facts into "verified Fun Facts" and "Other things of interest" is a start, and will be helpful down the road. Fun Facts Avenger
Actually, I think I know how to split it, though I'm not sure that you'll agree with me on it. "Remarks" points out general things about the H*R universe (pertaining to the 'toon in question, of course), while "Trivia" is the more nitty-gritty (and, in your opinion, likely "boring") stuff. I also removed a Fun Fact (I'm pretending it got moved to the Lappy page). And yes, I know it would take a while to do this to all the already-made pages, much less to get the newbies to honor the individual categories, but if more people agree on it, we can work together to get it done faster. If we even agree on it, BTW. PS, anyone seeing this on the Recent Changes page is more than welcome to give their opinions. --Jay 02:35, 7 Jan 2005 (MST)

The Alphabetization

It's a good thing you finished doing the alphabetizing on the Nicknames page. It wasn't that I didn't know about the "the" rule as it applies to general alphabetizing, it's that 1) I wasn't entirely sure if the "the" would count as an official part of the nickname, and 2) I wasn't sure if going by the "the" rule would have somebody or another going "NO NO NO YOU DID IT ALL WRONG STUPID." The order of the items and the exact wording of them is subject to change.

Easter Eggs

An easter egg (or just "egg" for short) is a secret part of a toon that can only be accessed by performing a particular action (e.g. clicking on a particular word or object) during a toon or by waiting for awhile after the toon has "ended".

Easter eggs should be listed in chronological order (that is, the order in which they are accessible in the toon).

Explanations

This is the category for explanations of anything non-obvious within the toon. Jokes are not to be explained here, unless they are obscure. Any direct references must also be placed in the proper categories rather than here.

Trivia

Trivia is just what it sounds like - trivia about toon. This is, in general, more "nitty-gritty" than what goes into the "Remarks" category. Examples of proper trivia are the first appearance of items that are future regular appearances, notes on the length or size of the toon, or just mentioning something that happened in the toon specifically that is unusual.

Remarks

A remark is something notable about the toon itself, usually concerning the plot, the characters, or relation to other toons (but aren't direct references). Opinionated remarks or criticisms of the toon are not to be placed here or anywhere else.

Remarks should not be extremely obvious. If something is obvious to 95% of the audience (including first-time viewers), then it does not belong on the page. If a Remark is questionably interesting, or questionably factual, please see HRWiki:STUFF for instructions.

Goofs

A goof is a mistake made in the toon concerning the plot, generally in the form of a plot hole. As a note, seeming plot holes concerning minor comments made in previous toons should go in the "Remarks" category.

Glitches

A glitch is an accident in the Flash software that is not connected with the plot. For instance, if clicking on the trigger for an Easter Egg quickly causes the sound to stop, that is a glitch.

Flash Byproducts are NOT allowed, unless noted humorus or something extra. A Flash byproduct is something odd or strange in an .swf version of a toon. This can include missing parts of characters, different things "outside the wall", etc. (See The FAQ for more information).

Inside References

And inside reference is a non-regular character, item, or plot element that returns from an older Homestar cartoon. (Do not forward-reference in this category; that is, do not refer to the re-appearance of an item in a toon that had not been created. If it is significant, it can be included in the "To Be Continued..." category.)

Real-World References

A real-world reference is a reference to anything other than a Homestar cartoon. The mention of a famous person's name, an appearance of an actual product, or the quoting (or mangling) of a real quote all constitute real-world references.

To Be Continued...

If a minor object or plot element in the toon - or the toon itself - is referred to later, you can place it in the "To Be Continued..." category if it is relevant.

For all of the above categories, please refer to the General rules above, particularly the prohibition on conversational style, and place all facts at the bottom of the appropriate list, please.

EXAMPLE

(The facts in question were taken from animal. Not all facts from animal were included.)

Explanations

  • The Christmas lights he mentioned on the fish refer to bioluminescence, which is used by various deep sea creatures to attract prey, among other functions.
  • The fact that there is less than five minutes in the Lappy's battery may be due to the fact that the emails last less than five minutes!

Trivia

  • This, obviously, is the end of the Compy 386 era and the beginning of the Lappy 486 era.
  • The table has been re-drawn by TBC, with thinner lines and no shadow along the back edge. You can see the obvious difference between this and virus. Note: This could go in Remarks as worded, or remain in Trivia with some re-wording
  • Strong Bad's mention of "Christmas lights" is one of the few references to Christmas on the site, since Christmas is replaced by Decemberween.

Remarks

  • It looks like all Strong Bad has to do for an email to be "DELETED!" is type "ALT-D" -- as it shows on the bottom of his screen.
  • The wall behind the computer had been expertly mended, leaving no seams or cracks. It is impossible to tell where the shot entered the wall after destroying Compy in virus.
  • Despite its supposed portability, the Lappy is plugged into the same socket that both Tandy and Compy used to occupy -- which is good, since well over 75% of its battery life would have been exhausted during the email. However, we never see Strong Bad plug in the Lappy. The Lappy was plugged in after Strong Bad cut away from the speculations back to the computer room.
  • Strong Bad refers to The Paper as a male, yet in the email invisibility the Tandy 400 says that the printer is a girl.
  • One of Strong Bad's picks of animal accessories and options is listed as "Segmented Eyes," although he evidently meant "Compound Eyes" in his trademark lingo.

Goofs

  • In the deep sea fangly fish part, Strong Bad adds a back deck for dinner and dancing. However, this is not on the back of the deep sea fangly fish in the Easter Egg.
  • Since the proboscis is where the monstrosity's nose should be, it shouldn't prevent him from speaking at all, but it does anyway.

Real-World References

  • The deep-sea fangly fish looks like an Anglerfish.
  • The Cheat swimming around in the sea looks like the yellow submarine from the classic animated movie (starring The Beatles), Yellow Submarine.
  • Another one of Strong Bad's animal accessories picks is a 15 Year Drivetrain Warranty. This is probabbly a reference to the car company Toyota's Powertrain Warranty program.

Fast Forward

Hi there Jay. I don't think the "Fast Forward" section heading you've been using to clean up the fun facts is clearly descriptive enough. ("Fast Forward? I can fast forward this thing?") Do you think there's a better name for it? "Later references"? "Mentioned in"? I don't really have any good ideas, but just something that's actually describes what is in the section should be fine.   • "Fast Forward" was actually Kamek's name. The above examples call it "To be continued..." I think it's a good name, but yeah, I can see where it might be confusing to someone else. Hmmm... --Jay 20:21, 17 Jan 2005 (MST)
