- ... and has been for some time. It's the unfortunate side effect of directly including the template. I only removed it from "To Be deleted" for obvious reasons, but didn't touch the others. The problem is primarily that if you subst the templates, they will not change as the template is modified. So either everything is subst'd or left as is. --Stux 12:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, since there are several things to discuss/address, I will make a list! :)
- To answer your first question, I think that the usefulness of this page may outweigh the awkwardness of this page showing in the categories. Of course determining the usefulness of this page is important. But what I consider a more important question is: if having the ability to see the latest version of the template outweigh the awkwardness of this page showing in the categories.
- The usefulness of this page I beleive is to show an complete list with examples of all the templates that we know of in one simple page. That way editors can use this as a quick reference for templates they don't know well enough. This has been done to a lesser degree in HRWiki:Template messages.
- Speaking of HRWiki:Template messages, I had posted a small note inquiring about the usefulness of merging that page with this one. It is still unanswered, but I think it important, since both pages try to do the same thing.
- Another issue is that HRWiki talk:Template messages unlike this page, does not have its templates inlined, but rather subst'd so that it doesn't appear in the categories. This is related to my merging question and your question, cuz if they're merged we'd have to pick one or the other (awkward cats vs. functional templates). If they're not, we'd still have to pick one or the other for consistency.
- The ideal would be: include all the templates without subst, but not have them appear in the cats. It would be nice if we had some field or parameter which would disable the category. But then it would have to be done for each template. However, another "template category" template (with some conditional) could be used in order to facilitate this.
Hope this helps/clarifies things. --Stux 11:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think I could make all these templates appear without having to use subst, and without their appearing in the respective categories. Let me think on what the best way to do it would be. — It's dot com 14:31, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- I was about to make two suggestions for this but I think you pretty much solved the issue in {{tobediscussed}} with the
{{#ifeq:User talk:Phlip/Templates|Template:tobediscussed
section of code. We could embed a similar line of code inside of a template (perhaps something like {{templatecat}}) and we could use nested ifs for multiple pages. These could then be placed in all appropriate templates.--Stux 02:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
