Easter Eggs

  • On the old background, there were three links in the black area below the video. The text was the same color as the background (Click and drag to highlight.) They say "lookit me!", "no, me!", and "whu bout me?". Click on them and you would get some behind-the-scenes photos. (Note: To access this easter egg you must be watching the full page version of the toon, not the popup version from the website. The full page version is linked to at the bottom of the page.) It appears this easter egg can no longer be accessed.

Fun Facts

  • The glasses worn by Puppet Homestar are the "cool shades" seen throughout the Homestar Runner website.
  • This was originally called "Whoa! Puppets", and then "Puppet Thing", and now "Everybody Knows It".
  • Homestar's song is a parody of public service shorts that ran during Saturday morning cartoons in the 1980s.
  • This song was actually heard in labor day first, which is why Homestar's voice seems cut off.
  • This was first put up as a Quicktime video, and then later as a Flash file, so people who didn't have Quicktime didn't need to install it.
  • In the easter egg photos, the baseboards and windows seem to have blue painter's tape where they meet the wall, perhaps the walls were recently painted.
  • The wall is painted a similar color to the background color of the cd album, Good News For People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse.

DVD Version

  • The DVD version features hidden creators' commentary. To access it, switch your DVD player's audio language selection while watching.

Commentary Transcript

(Commentary by: Mike Chapman, Ryan Sterritt)

MIKE: Alright, so this is Mike and Ryan doing the commentary on this one.

RYAN: 'Tis true.

MIKE: Matt is on the phone with his wife so maybe if he gets off the phone, he'll join us. So this was the first puppet thing we did for the website.

RYAN: It was.

MIKE: Uh, Ryan, um- I guess this was pretty soon after you started working with us. Pretty quick. Um, we shot it in Matt's bedroom with a somewhat green walls to key it out.

RYAN: {simultaneously} Late at night.

MIKE: Yeah, very late at night. So the keying out of the background was a little more difficult than usual. You can see Homestar Runner's propeller disappear a few times and-

RYAN: You can see things through the keyboard.

{both laugh}

MIKE: Yeah, the keyboard has lots of holes in it.

RYAN: I love that scene.

MIKE: But I made these construction paper cutouts for the backgrounds. Never used that style again. Or did we use that?

RYAN: Did with the Christmas one.

MIKE: Yeah, but that was felt. Yeah, similar though, right. Um-

RYAN: Lucky was there with us for this too.

MIKE: Yeah, our friend Lucky Yates, who made the, uh- he and our friend Chris Brown made the Homestar and Strong Bad puppets. Um, I guess it's about over, huh?

RYAN: Is it? It was a short one.
