[edit] Splitting the cities

Much of what takes place in the cities is the same, or at least extremely similar. Is it really necessary to have full sections dedicated to each city? The only differences are:

  • The props (all of them are city-specific, and all of them appear in Extended Mode).
  • The stuff that happens in Venice before you have access to the other cities (which mainly involves Renaldo and Dadgeresque, who aren't even IN the other cities).
  • The dialogue when Dangeresque examines the podium.
  • Much (but far from all) of the dialogue when Dangeresque speaks to The Informant.
  • How Sultry Buttons responds to Dangeresque's charms (only in that she prefers Paris, AFAIK).

The biggest problem I see with just combining the sections would be that it would make the dialogue tree with The Informant very, very long. Otherwise, I'd just as soon do something like:

The Podium

When in Venice

STRONG BAD: something

When in Paris

STRONG BAD: something else

etc. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:11, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

And, BTW, even if we DO keep the cities separate, we'd need a sixth "city" for Extended Play. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 06:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Basically my original idea was that things that happen the same regardless of where Strong Bad was would go down in General, along with all the extended play stuff - General is effectively my sixth city. I think the events that happen in each city are different enough that if we lumped them all together, we'd still have to have a separate line for each city for almost every option. I did it for the Limozeen standee at the Baddest of the Bands stages, and it started to get messy. I pondered only having one blob, but decided in the end to go for the separate cities. It makes it easier to keep things straight, I think.
The "at intervals while in the scene" for the Informant, Informant &rarr Sultry Buttons, and using the nunchuck gun, are pretty much the only things Strong Sad says the same in every scene. His responses to the other options, and to items which you use on him, are all different. Each scene has a different podium response, a different background, and gets a different note when you leave the flower for Sultry. For that matter, all the scenes react to the Metal Detector, but it's only possible to actually find something when in Cairo. =) Basically in the end, it seemed to me that there was more justification for having them separated. --Belthazar 06:24, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, as it stands, someone took my suggestion with nunchuck gun -> informant, which only serves to make things inconsistent. --Jay v.2024 (Auld lang syne) 17:31, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Ah, yes - that would be me too. And it was more of me taking my own idea, which I had before you posted your suggestion. =) Basically, of everything that happens, Strong Sad's response to having the Nunchuck gun pointed at him is the one of the few that's basically the same from location to location. As I said above. As is asking about Sultry Buttons, but that's short enough that it can just be said five times (and separating that one out would probably just make things confusing}. --Belthazar 21:44, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
