Like, in your case, I signed on the wiki and went to [[Special:Recentchanges|recent changes]] as usual, saw that you were new, and thought, "Aaa! A new user! Gotta catch 'em all!" ... and madly dashed to get a welcome in before any of the other eagle-eyed welcomers. Oh, and by the way, unrelated to anything, there's some stuff I really, really recommend you read; a lot of the questions you already have or will soon about editting pages and how we do stuff will be answered by reading through the stuff on [[Help:Editing|this page]] and [[HRWiki:Standards|this one]]. By the way—responding to something that's been deleted already—on the welcoming committee it's not like there's a list just sitting around of new users who haven't been welcomed yet; typically somebody will only be a user for a few minutes before somebody welcomes them.
