Russia and the Russian language get occasionally referenced in the Homestar Runner universe. Most often the references have to with Russia during the period of the U.S.S.R. and their communist past.
Appearances
- Hairstyle Runner — One of the styles is called "Homestar the Terrible", a reference to Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible.
- Homestarloween Party — Strong Sad dresses up as Mikhail Gorbachev, the final President of the Soviet Union
- Email radio — Marzipan is reading a book titled Tolstoy Story 2, a portmanteau of Russian author Leo Tolstoy and the film Toy Story 2.
- Email redesign — Color Wheel Roulette is advertised as having 50% less deaths than the Russian variety.
- Email 4 branches — The Homestar Runner calls Rumble Red a communist fool.
- In Decemberween Short Shorts, it is implied that Rumble Red comes from a Soviet style planet.
- Email the movies — One of the selections on a trivia card is The Battleship Potemkin an influential silent film about the Battleship Potemkin uprising.
- Email original — Homestar Runner is seen wearing a Russian police officer outfit. In the commentary, Mike declares it "Russian Day".
- Jibblies 2 — Strong Mad dresses as Nikolai Volkoff, a professional wrestler in the WWF during the 1980s. He uses the term "ruskie", slang for Russian person.
- Where's An Egg — The game is set in Russia and has extensive use of the Russian language. A page from the manual written in Russian was posted to Some Type of Online Auction by a person living on Arbat Street in Moscow.
- Strong Badia the Free — Two of the countries echo Russian countries; Union of Soviet Socialist Repubricks and Coachnya, which echoes the Russian province of Chechnya. The flag for Concessionstantinople is similar to the Soviet Union flag.
