- This is the first appearance of the Umpire since Where My Hat Is At?, and his first animated appearance. He was previously scheduled to appear in a 2006 Strong Bad Email (according to the DVD commentary), but the Brothers Chaps forgot.

- In the Easter egg, the Umpire's chat on Mookie Blaylock and the kickball with the Announcer parodies the Grape Faerie's chat with the Announcer on Mookie Wilson and the golbol in Strongest Man in the World.
- Homestar taunts Marzipan, declaring she couldn't kick her way out of Lookin' at a Thing in a Bag.

Real-World References
- Part of the kickball game, specifically how the teams are arranged, refers to chapter 21 of "Sideways Stories From Wayside School", in which Ron, one of the children from the school's thirtieth floor, plays kickball against his classmates, with only Louis, the school yard teacher, on his team, only to lose the game due to his poor kicking ability.
- During the coin toss, Homestar calls out "Sonic! I mean, Tails!" This is in reference to the Sega character Sonic the Hedgehog, and his friend "Tails."
