[edit] Cleanup

Now that this has been released on YouTube, this should be a real page. I copied the text straight from the temporary page. We need to add images and YouTube watch links. The intro could be reworked, and we should probably break those long paragraphs up a bit. — It's dot com 04:15, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Transcript Templates

In case anyone was wondering what all the {{#ifeq:}}s and <noinclude>s were all about, I was trying to make it so that typing {{:Skills of an Artist|1}} would show the first episode transcript, {{:Skills of an Artist|3}} would show the third, and so on. This way, we won't have to edit both this page and User:Purple Wrench/sandbox (soon @StrongBadActual) if we needed to change the transcript. I'm having trouble getting this to work. Could anyone help? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 06:06, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind. I changed it so that Purple Wrench's sandbox links to the transcript instead of showing the full version. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 23:46, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Episode Transcripts

It appears that there are a handful of these episodes now. Would it make sense to make a separate page for each episode and create a category for them? The Knights Who Say Ni 01:33, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

I was originally against this idea, but that was before they started putting them on YouTube. With all these new episodes coming out all the time, getting more and more complicated, I think it might be the best and most organized option. After all, we have individual pages for other YouTube videos. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 23:54, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
You know what, the more I think about it, the more I like this idea. Definite support. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:32, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
But what will they be called? [[Skills of an Artist - Sammich]], like the YouTube titles, or just plain [[Sammich]]? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:15, 13 September 2017 (UTC) P.S. Here's an example of what seperate pages would be like.
Well, the Strong Bad Emails don't all have "Strong Bad Email - " in the title, so I lean towards leaving "Skills of an Artist - " out. The Knights Who Say Ni 00:59, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a good point. I agree. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 03:49, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
I'll just go ahead and create the individual pages then (unless someone disagrees). I can't think of any reason not to. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 04:53, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Transcript Format

So this is a thing that needs discussing. We need a better format for our Skill of an Artist transcripts. Currently, they're a mess of regular and italic text, which isn't super for readability. They could probably be improved a little with some more line breaks. But here's a thought that I had— what if we arranged our transcripts in table format, with stage directions on the left and dialogue on the right? Especially since a great deal of the time Strong Bad draws and speaks simultaneously. (And when I say stage directions, I mean the ones that dictate what he's drawing or what appears on the screen— stuff like {speaking in a robotic monotone} can stay on the dialogue side.) Anyway, I think two-column transcripts like that would be easier on the eye. Anyone, thoughts? Lira (talk) 17:14, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

A table would probably be the best option, despite being kind of unorthodox for transcripts. I think it would be more organized and easier to read, though, so I support. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:15, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
I think we could use the "regular" transcript way as soon as each episode has its own page. -174.62.238.201 01:01, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
But wait! What'll we do for other stuff, like the end of End Boss? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 04:53, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Since I've written up the transcripts for the last few Skills of an Artist videos, I'd like to bring this topic up again. I understand that other users want tables and the earlier transcripts look messy, but I'm willing to rewrite them to look neater if we agree transcripts will be the consistent format. 99.48.86.26 05:12, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

The thing is, right now, 6 out of the 16 transcripts are tables. If we make the rest of them tables, that would take some work. But if we turned the tables back into regular transcripts, that would be lots of hard work wasted. Personally, I don't really have a problem with tables. It seems like a more organized way to do these, since Strong Bad usually speaks and draws at the same time. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 06:47, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
Or we could make the tables separate pages, à la the visuals pages. RickTommy (edits) 07:24, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
It's a good idea in theory, but with music videos, the song is the most important part, and therefore the only part that needs to be in the transcript. But with Skills of an Artists, the drawing is the most important part, so it wouldn't make much sense to put it on a seperate page. Plus, the tables aren't that long. They take up about as much space as a very short transcript. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 19:44, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
If you are still willing to re-write as tables, that would be very aesthetically pleasing for us on repeat visits and new visitors to the wiki to have tables. Thanks! — donuts-icon.pngtimmodonuts (T/C) 16:09, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Reviving this since the ones that were tables were recently changed to regular transcripts. I also "vote, in quotes, like there's a bite taken out of it" for tables. RickTommy (edits) 11:53, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
I already rewrote all the tables into transcripts to make the format consistent for all the videos, and I daresay they look plenty neat already. If you really want tables so badly, why don't you put in the time and effort to write up a table for every single Skills of an Artist page? -- 68.37.43.131 21:09, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Whiteboard

It looks to me like StroBro went TheWhiteboardless sometime around the last few of these, and is using real actual dead trees with notebook lines scaled up to his giant mitts. This should be mentioned, right? In the article and then in the trivia on whichever one did the switch'em'over

[edit] YouTube Dates?

Are the YouTube dates even that important? We don't document the YouTube release dates of any other toons on their page, or on the Toons page. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:15, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

I don't see why we need them. The Knights Who Say Ni 14:39, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
Because it's data, and more data is always good. I would be in favour of documenting Youtube dates on all toons' pages. --DorianGray 22:45, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd be fine with adding YouTube dates to all pages, or removing them from these pages. It's just the inconsistency that bothers me. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 07:02, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
I figured we only place YouTube dates for YouTube exclusives, and Twitter doesn't count as much in that regard because Twitter posts eventually sink too far down in the queue to be easily accessed or something like that. You know what those are. Skills of an Artist videos and other modern Puppet Stuff that's not made in Flash so it's easier to post a YouTube video than embed a Flash file. In this case, the YouTube release date is the day it becomes permanently known to the public shortly after it was created, not re-released for mobile phones about a decade later. 99.48.86.26 17:09, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit] New Skills of an Artist but...

I've got not idea what to call the thang ding. Should we go with a temp name and change ti or wait until the YouTube video? Guybrush20X6 00:40, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

I say it's fine to go ahead with a temp name. Pages can always be moved. --Jay (Talk) 00:56, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit] draw trogdor again?

should we link to the running gag page about 'drawing trogdor again' somwhere? this follows the same format and could very well be considered a successor to the dragon email, so i'm wondering if the creation of this series was a direct response to all the fans aking sb to draw more trogdor
