[edit] High-Quality Images

Does anyone think they can recreate some of these Squintmojis, and upload them in higher quality? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 23:04, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Great jorb. Thanks! My compy/phone doesn't show them the same way, so someone else needs to take screenshots of these. (Also, does anyone think we should include the actual typed-out Squintmojis, not just the images, in the article? I'm not sure, but it sounds like it could be a good idea.) Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 22:10, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the typed-out squintmojis should be on the page (we may need to work on the alignment a bit). High-res screenshots should only be used if they're the exact flavor that were used in the toon. — It's dot com 06:14, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Oh jeez, S/squintmojis!

It's capitalized as "squintmojis" in the toon, meaning that's presumably the official capitalization. A lot of people are capitalizing it anyways. How should it be capitalized? squintmojis or Squintmojis? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 01:14, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

[edit] Official unicode names

Emoji do in fact have standardized names, handled by the Unicode Standard, that we can look up and use. I prefer to use Emojipedia as reference - it uses the official Unicode names, is searchable, and has large pictures. There's also the single-page Unicode full list but that's a little more unwieldy. Anyways, a lot of the names used in this article are similar, but there are some differences:

  • 🥒 "Cucumber" - currently we have "a half-chopped cucumber" for specificity, most versions of this emoji are unsliced.
  • 🏓 "Ping Pong" - we use an extended "a ping-pong paddle and ball".
  • 👺 "Goblin" - currently we have "a tengu mask". Emoji are Japanese in origin; goblin conjures up a different visual to most Western readers.
  • 🈂️ "Japanese “Service Charge” Button" - our longer description "a blue button with Japanese katakana サ (sa, "Service Charge"/"Free of charge")" includes the katanaka and its literal translation.

I think it'd be good to standardize with the official names, but add a sub-bullet where it'd help with specification (the Apple emoji having a relatively unique appearance) or added detail (something Japanese that benefits from more context). -- Bleu Ninja 16:50, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
