The programming of the long-running children's channel, Nickelodeon, has inspired some short gags in Homestar Runner. Matt Chapman once worked for the channel as a director of the Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba!; he and Mike had previously animated a cartoon for that show.
Appearances
- Sketchbook (museum) — The caption for the Trivia Time sketches reads, "Is that Stimpy?"
- Email 12:00 (Easter egg) — One of the tapes in the VCR reads "YCDTOTV Season 2", for the show You Can't Do That on Television.
- Puppet Time — Homestar Runner drops off a video of Mr. Wizard.
- Email for kids — In Strong Bad's children show, he asks viewers to help him find The Cheat. This is similar to early episodes of Blue's Clues that began with the host, Steve, asking the viewers to help find Blue.
- The Li'l Brudder Show — Li'l Brudder scrapes across the show's logo as SpongeBob SquarePants does in the opening of his show.
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 — What's Her Face asks The Ugly One if her party will be "Nick-at-Nite themed again".
- Email highschool — The middle school depiction appears to be based on Muppet Babies, which was on Nickelodeon from 1992-1999.
- Jibblies 2 —
- The Cheat dresses as Penfold from DangerMouse.
- Homestar dresses as Artie from The Adventures of Pete and Pete.
- Bubs dresses as Ross from YCDTOTV.
- Marzipan gets slimed for saying "I don't know" (like the cast of YCDTOTV occasionally did).
- Strong Bad dresses up as Beetlejuice, whose cartoon series aired on Nickelodeon from 1994-1998.
- Decemberween Short Shorts (DVD commentary) — Matt Chapman says the shot of Coach Z's butt reminds him of Ren and Stimpy. Mike Chapman says there might have been butt dancing in "Happy Happy Joy Joy", a song from that show.
- Toikey TV — The title is a parody of Turkey TV.
- Sketchbook — The entry "Puddin' Patch Friends" includes a drawing of Dora the Explorer.
- Most in the Graveyard — Coach Z dresses up as DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba!.
- Email original (DVD commentary) — Bubs says that Original Bubs looks like Rocko's Modern Life. He describes the series as "some kind of old Nicktoon from 1994... berry," possibly referencing a later Nickelodeon animated series, The Wild Thornberrys (although The Wild Thornberries did not debut until 1998).
- Haunted Photo Booth — Strong Mad dresses up as Powdered Toast Man from Ren and Stimpy.
