Edit summaries

Hi RickTommy. Your recent single-letter edit summaries on images (as well as some others in the recent past) are not descriptive of the edits you are making. Yes, I'm aware that put all together they spell "cleanup" backwards, but image summaries are for page histories first, and recent changes a distant second. Someone looking at a page history 5 years from now is not going to have a clue what "u" means in this context. Please stick to just "Image summary cleanup" for these edit summaries and don't try to get creative. Thanks. — Defender1031*Talk 23:43, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Seems like I need to remind you again. Many of your recent edits don't consist of either the words "Image Summary Cleanup" or the acronym "ISC". (Yes, I'm aware that they are anagrams, or pig latin, or phonetic spellings of letters, or various other bastardizations of the proper summary, but that doesn't make them proper summaries themselves.) In addition, a few of your other recent summaries are a little too "creative" to be clearly understood at a glance. I know it's not as interesting, but for the sake of the other editors, please stick to just the plain old "Image summary cleanup" as your description from now on. — Defender1031*Talk 02:57, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
So, edit summaries. Yeah. Looking at your contributions page many of your edit summaries are blank with the exception of some the Image Summary cleanup edit summaries. Being somewhat consistent with the Image Summary Cleanup summaries is good but edit help other editors know at a glance what it is that your edits are changing. So please be more diligent with your edit summaries to make things easier for other editors. Thank you. --Stux 05:44, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Patching things up

Hey man. Yeah...I know it's been a while but if feel really bad about the way I treated you way back then. I used to be Wasd98 in case you were wondering. I was 14 back then and really stupid. I wanted to make a difference on this wiki and I thought acting like a sysop or whatever would make that happen but I just ended annoying people and I'm truly sorry. You didn't deserve to be treated that way. Just wanted to patch things up. :) Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 01:16, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Signature

Hi RickTommy. Your new signature is too long and the yellow text is unreadable. Please fix it. See HRWiki:SIG if you have any questions. Thanks! — It's dot com 00:49, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Image Summaries

Hey RickTommy, you've done a lot of good work lately with the image summary cleanup. Thanks for your help. Would you mind going through and marking which ones you've done on these pages? The Knights Who Say Ni 05:43, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

I have to say, that is a really clever April Fools idea. Gotta love conditional Mediawiki text!

You mean you've never mutated from one sig to another? Wow, you're missing out. Oh, and good luck getting your sig working by the way. -- ■■   PURPLE Φ ORNAMENT   ■■ 02:02, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Signature (again)

Hey there RickTommy, you appear to have forgotten to change your april fools sig back to a standards-compliant one. In addition, the lack of a close span tag is actively breaking the formatting on talk pages. Please fix this when you get a chance. Thanks. — Defender1031*Talk 12:35, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

April Fools' 2015

Regarding this edit summary: Yes, when you go ahead and add them. There's nothing about that page that says users may not add their own pranks; in fact, adding your own pranks is encouraged. It's easier for the rest of us to understand them that way. The Knights Who Say Ni 05:25, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

A question

Hi, RickTommy. Don't forget to revert your signature back to one that fits out policies, now that April Fools' is past. Heimstern Läufer 13:38, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Period after question mark

Why must you revert my edits? It is improper grammar to put a period after something in quotation marks that ends with an exclamation mark or question mark.—Bde1982 23:27, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

That's true for general usage, but our house style is to tend to ignore that when the exclamation mark or question mark is part of the name of a toon or article. If you wish to discuss this further, you should bring it up on HRWT:STYLES. — It's dot com 03:18, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Breaking up large edits

Hey there RickTommy, I've noticed that lately you've had a tendency to make very large edits to pages, which combine removing, adding, modifying, and re-ordering entries in a way that it makes the edit diff very difficult to follow. In addition, your edit summaries tend to mention at most only one out of the dozens of changes being made, and sometimes none at all. A better approach would be to make several smaller edits that are easier for others to follow. For example, if there is a list that has 3 items you want to add, several items not in chronological order, two items that you don't think should be there, and 5 items that need rewording, formatting, or links added, it's probably better to make four or five edits rather than just one, as follows:

  1. Reordering the existing list (without removing, adding, or changing anything) with an edit summary saying such
  2. Rewording or formatting the existing entries with an edit summary indicating exactly what you're changing and why
  3. Adding the three facts that you want to add with an edit summary describing what you're adding
  4. Removing the first fact you want to remove with a very detailed explanation of why you think that thing should be removed
  5. A separate edit with a separate detailed edit summary on why you're removing the second thing

I know that at this point you're probably thinking "but making multiple consecutive edits to the same page is frowned upon, that's what show preview is for". While that's true in most cases, it's not true in the case of large amounts of unrelated changes to the same page. In general, the "avoid consecutive edits" guideline is referring to multiple edits being made to the same area of a page, such as tweaking the formatting of something several times. On the other hand, if several unrelated edits need to be made to a page, multiple edits are actually preferred. Anyway, I hope that helps for the future. — Defender1031*Talk 15:41, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Careless Edit

RickTommy, you need to be more careful with your editing. In the Questions page you removed an answered question. If you simply scroll down to the end of the page you'll see that answered questions go in their section. So please don't be so quick to delete things and also keep in mind DeFender's good advice which is actually a wiki guideline albeit not explained with the level of detail that DeFender did, which it should be. Thanks. --Stux 12:47, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
