Hi TB! I know you already thought about it by viewing the source of your /Sysops subpage, but I realy think you should add Stux in there too. Anytime I view the recent changes page I see him on some project. From minor ones like splitting talk pages to re-doing entire pages, he is alweys constructively helping the wiki. Those are just my two agorot. 14:23, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

:True, he has done alot. And he seems very knowledgable about computers and codes - an asset for being a sysop, and a quality I'm somewhat lacking. But on closer inspection, he's only made little more than 500 namespace edits. However, these "ratings" are still just rough guides; if a nomination period ever comes up again, I still don't know who I'd nominate, or vote for. I'd most likely still vote a yes for Stux, and maybe even vote a no for some in my list of hopefulls. The list is more used as a quick reference for contributers who's user and talk pages I frequent often. It'll often get updated too. Most likely if Stux continues the way he's going, he'll most likely be on it by the end of the year. 19:19, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Curious as to what your issue is with User:Color Printer/Pop. According to our policy, it's OK to have a subpage for "a work in progress, until it is ready to be released". I saw no evidence of a user template there. 01:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
-
::Although there are alot of people here who deserve to be sysops, i'm just wondering if you're choosing people that have been around for a long time and have decent edits, or just anyone with outstanding edits. Because some of the people on your list (for example, Mibluvr13) aren't that active, but when they are, they do great edits. I'm not saying i'm against against her, I think she would make an awesome sysop along with the rest, but you were complaining before how some sysops aren't as active after become so. Just a thought. 19:39, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

::I see it now. Actually, that might not be a bad idea for a wiki template for use by any user... hmm... 01:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

:::Sorry, it wasn't a big deal or anything. I have no problem with a similar communial template, I actually like the idea of it. But that template as a user subpage had no reason to be nested, when the contents could easily just be duplicated at the top. Hope I didn't offend anyone. 05:06, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

:::Heh, funny you should notice that. Like I said before, they're just general guidelines, and they're not done yet. I'm sure there's lots of good users that I haven't thought of. Besides, these are in no way official. I just wanted an extra section of my Sysop list to put users that I often frequent their pages, and I figured "hopefuls" was as good a name as any. I could just have easily named it "others" or "not sysops". As for my guidelines, I kinda took a page from Wikipedia. They look for those who are level headed, made usually at least 1000 mainspace edits, things like that. Again, these are in no way official, or even guarantees that I would nominate/vote for them, should the oppourtunity ever arise. In fact, maybe I will rename it to just "others". Yea, that's probably more accurate. 19:59, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

:Woah, you have a pony tail? Cool. Anydayways, happy birthday Thunder bird! 04:46, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

:Haha. Well originally my task was to "Get a Danish", then later to "Catch a Raven", but at this point in my life I've decided to change my priorities, and simply wait for come what may. Perhaps one day I'll throw one of those tasks back up there, already crossed off, or perhaps even a different but similar one, but for now that kind of goal is no longer in my immediate sights. 03:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
 +
::I can understand giving up on a raven, but a Danish? Come on, this is accomplishable! Don't quit on that! What message are you sending to the UM-13's? You can't do what's in your reach? 03:30, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
 +
:::I haven't given up. Though I do plan on someday getting a danish, a raven, or something similar, I'm not actively pursuing such a goal at this time. One day, definently. If I were presented a danish, a raven, or something else tomorrow, I'd seriously consider accepting it. But for the time being the pursuit of such has been pushed to the back of my priorities. It's not that its not accomplishable, I've just re-considered my future goals. 03:36, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I didn't want to litter IRF's page with talkage, but your birthday wish is barely readably on a computer screen. The image is too small and the color is a bit faded. :Hmmm... Seems to be fine on my computer. I thought images were more or less universal for size and quality from the source, but I could be totally wrong on that. ::::Well, if it's handwritten and scanned, probably the best thing to do would be to just scan it again... Find some resolution setting in the scanning software and knock that up a couple of notches... Your average screen is around 72 or 96 DPI, for printing you generally want something in the order of 300... give or take a factor of 2, depending on the quality you're after. :Oh I wouldn't worry about IRC. It was just like 12 or 1:20 am, and I was waiting for my sister and her boyfriend to get back from the states, so I figured chatting with someone would keep me up. But it wasn't important or anything. As it turned out, they got back like two minutes after I left anyways. As for Pizza, I figure with Ducks, Swiss Cake Rolls and Toilets, it's as a recurring a theme as any. As long as the maker makes the page complete, it probably doesn't hurt. But if we were to get flooded with some "trying to be helpful" annony making incomplete pages of things like "Clouds" "Stairs" and "Carpet", it might get annoying. As long as it's decent and complete though, I don't see a problem with it. And about that "timetable" thing... I just had a flash. Perhaps some HRWiki page with a big map split into time zones, with users putting themselves into what time zone they fit into? I'm not sure how useful it would be though, I think it'd get pretty messy within the 3 or 4 hour "North American" time zones, and just you way on the other side. :) 20:10, 19 December 2005 (UTC) (Btw, what did you think of my Wedsite?)

:::Nice to know about your sister. As for Pizza, which is now a page of it's own, thanks for the encouragement. I really needed it for making those pages. About people that make pages and then abandon them - I'm not like this. When I do something I'd always like to do it right, including links and everything (A thing that I'm about to do now). I like those long lists where things that at a time were not even remotaly related, can now find a common thing beween them. I thought about another page that I'm still not sure I want to do: Facial expressions. To have big ol' galleries about every chacacter's facial expressions with abnormalities, like the time Strong Bad narrowed his eyes in email XX.

:::About the timeline. I think Frapper, the link I linked to above, is a good place to start. While we're still on the subject, how about creating an article about Strong Bad's catchphrase, "Holy Crap!"? Hasn't it been said enough times on the website for it to be called a running gag? I mean, if we have a page on Crapfully Yours, why not "Holy Crap?" Then again, I guess it would be like somebody creating an article for Homestar's "Seriously!" I'm currently housesitting, and I've noticed on my sister's computer that my usual "double sided arrow symbols" from my sig just look like squares on their computer. Which got me wondering: Just how many people think my sig is "Thunderbird" with a little square on each side? Is this a common problem, or is it just my sister's computer? Let me know what my sig looks like on YOUR browser, thanks. If it's a common problem, I guess I may have to fix it. 22:29, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

:Yes, I received it, thanks. I actually never left, I've still been here to check the new toon every week, I just haven't been contributing much, because all the things I wanted to do and projects I wanted to spearhead have been done, and I no longer feel my touch is needed on certain things or projects to get them just right. Since my lapse in contributing, everything has been running quite nicely, confirming my feelings of not being indispensable<!--I know that's a double negative, and it would be simpler to just say "dispensable", but it just sounds like it would mean something different than what I'm trying to convey-->. I felt adding the first new toon in the longest hiatus ever to my previous pet project of H*R.com updates was a fitting contribution I'd be proud to make. Also getting terribly busy with life, between work and school and wife and other commitments was also a motivating factor of cutting back my wiki time. Keep rocking on though, I'll still be around as long as Homestar is. 19:13, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Instead of the unicode characters, you can use the HTML entity code <code>&amp;hArr;</code> to produce the same &hArr;double arrows&hArr;. That might fix the problem on the systems that show squares instead. Then again, it may have something to do with the fonts that are being desplayed. If these are older computers that don't have full unicode variants of Verdana (or they don't have Verdana at all), you probably won't be able to see the arrows either way. It's worth a shot, though. &mdash; 21:46, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey there, I'm writing these thoughts here instead of on El Coolio von der Pollo Loco's page because we're getting a bit off the original topic there. But I did want to respond to your comments, so here goes. Re: Hebrew&mdash; My dad went to seminary, so he learnt both Hebrew and Greek for the sake of reading the Bible in the original languages. I also learnt Greek in high school, although never that well. But I still have a Greek New Testament and I try to read it every once in a while. Learning Greek also helped me with German a lot because I got used to using cases like Akkusativ and Nominativ. Re: Korean&mdash; I have a friend in military intelligence in the US army who's learning Korean. He tells me it's really hard to actually learn it. He used to be afraid he'd fail out of school, but I think he's improving and is less concerned about it now. As for me, I started my French reading knowledge class today. That could be interesting. It's just so different from German. Anyway, this has been a long comment, so I'll wrap up now. Talk atcha later! 07:21, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

:Well I won't be learning Korean then, thanks. :) That's cool you're learning French. You should move up to Canada, every label is bi-lingual up here, weather you like it or not. 00:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

::Or come to Israel, where every label is tri-lingual! Hebrew, Arabic and English. Here's a street sign to compare. 04:54, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

:::Yeah, I've heard about Canada's bilingualism. Actually, we're starting to see those English-French labels in the US a bit on various items you buy in stores. And on Heavy Lourdes. (I hear it's because of NAFTA or something.) And then, of course, California is becoming more and more bilingual every day what with all the Spanish-speakers we have around here. I actually had as interesting experience earlier tonight: I went to Cucca's, a wonderful taqueria here in SB, and asked if I could charge my order. The employee didn't know what it meant to charge something and had to ask one of her coworkers in Spanish what I meant. (Perhaps using the word "credit card" would have been helpful on my part.) But I digress... E.L. Cool: English, Hebrew and Arabic... that sounds fascinating. I'll have to come to Israel someday and see that. 07:10, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

::::It's sometihng to see graphic deigners design a bag of potato chips with three tables of nutritional facts at the back of it. In three languages. Which two of them is writen from right to left and one the other way around. And don't you forget the informative pieces of paper in drugs: When to take, how, all of it tri-lingual. 07:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

-
:::::Probably the most annoying thing about it is whenever you try to buy something like a boardgame, everything printed on the cards are in the two languages, which makes the font half the size, and it just bugs me, something you keep forever with a language on it that you'd rarely use on the West Coast. Luckily I live 5 minutes from the boarder, so I usually just pop down to bellingham in the states and buy any boardgames and the like from there. And although we're bi-lingual with all the products, our street signs aren't. Only the stop signs at the boarder crossing for some reason are in English and French, because I guess they have to be. In parts of Vancouver though, some of the signs are bi-lingual between English and Punjabi, or English and chinese, etc, depending what part of it you're in. 13:24, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

-
::::::That sounds fascinating. Man, I haven't been in Canada since I was, like, ten or something. And we even have a theory conference in Vancouver this year, but I can't imagine that I'll be able to afford to make it there. Oh, well. I'll still have to try to get to Canada again sometime. Oh, and I find it interesting that you mention coming to Bellingham, because my aunt used to live there. Now she lives even closer to the Canadian border, in a town called Lynden (maybe you know where that is, too, since I'm thinking it has to be pretty close to you?) Anyway, talk atcha later! 05:52, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

:::::::Yeah, I heard of Lynden. Given the chance, you should totally come to Vancouver sometime. It's a great place. [edit] Pop

Curious as to what your issue is with User:Color Printer/Pop. According to our policy, it's OK to have a subpage for "a work in progress, until it is ready to be released". I saw no evidence of a user template there. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I included User:Color Printer/Project in there. Sorry, I didn't know I was doing something wrong. --Color Printer 01:45, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I see it now. Actually, that might not be a bad idea for a wiki template for use by any user... hmm... Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, it wasn't a big deal or anything. I have no problem with a similar communial template, I actually like the idea of it. But that template as a user subpage had no reason to be nested, when the contents could easily just be duplicated at the top. Hope I didn't offend anyone. Thunderbird 05:06, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey dude, I am going away

Hey Thunderbird, I am offically leaving this Wiki. You were the sysop who helped me out the most, so I thought I would tell you I am going away. Thanks for what you do for the Wiki man. Not just you, but everyone else. I remember the one good thing I did on the Wiki, and that was helping Has Matt? stop a troll. Adios everyone! Beat 01:49, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Though it seems you've been pretty inactive since March, so it looks like there won't really be much of an immediate change in your presence here. In any case, glad that I could help. Thunderbird 23:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Did you catch a raven, or is no longer important to you to do so? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:20, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Haha. I can understand giving up on a raven, but a Danish? Come on, this is accomplishable! Don't quit on that! What message are you sending to the UM-13's? You can't do what's in your reach? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:30, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
I haven't given up. Thunderbird 03:36, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Update: I did end up catching my Raven. :) Thunderbird 21:48, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Funnily enough, I ended up catching a spring swallow. Go figure! Heimstern Läufer 16:17, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Not done and not done

I didn't want to litter IRF's page with talkage, but your birthday wish is barely readably on a computer screen. The image is too small and the color is a bit faded. It's your birthday wish, but I'm just pointing out. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm... Seems to be fine on my computer. I thought images were more or less universal for size and quality from the source, but I could be totally wrong on that. Perhaps I'll ask IRF, since he's the only one who really needs a solid copy-and-paste of the image anyways. Thanks for the heads up! Thunderbird 22:08, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Images that are small on a monitor (especially if they contain fine lines) almost never look good in printed form. That's been my experience as a printer. — It's dot com 22:11, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, no probalo. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:12, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
*Sigh*, I suppose I'll re-make it bigger then. In my experance, resizing a scanned printed message usually makes it choppy or pixely, so I was going for "actual size". Would you reccomend a larger printing size, thicker tip, etc? Thunderbird 22:15, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, if it's handwritten and scanned, probably the best thing to do would be to just scan it again... Find some resolution setting in the scanning software and knock that up a couple of notches... Your average screen is around 72 or 96 DPI, for printing you generally want something in the order of 300... give or take a factor of 2, depending on the quality you're after. My signature was only about 3cm long on paper, but it's a hires scan. --phlip TC 03:16, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I also could not make it legible on my screen. I R F 14:30, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome Templates

Hi. I just became a member of the Welcoming Commitee, and I heard that you were good on making welcome message templates. Could you email me back about this? Makatota 16:15, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

It seems that you were sorely mis-lead on that, since while I have welcomed a fair number of new users in the past, I've only ever used the standard template, which in my opinion is all you ever need to use anyways. Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams, Thunderbird 16:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page Deletion

I have some user subpages that are just taking up space. Could you delete them for me please? They are: ‎User:AtionSong/ISketch, User:AtionSong/Voting Testing Grounds, and User:AtionSong/Sighting Categories. Thanks. -AtionSong 22:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I went ahead and took care of it. Heimstern Läufer 22:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

test edit from my cell phone. don't mind me. -t bir

Huh. Works. Not very efficent, but it'd work in a pinch. Thunderbird 23:36, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] One Day I Hope To Be A Sysop

Hi, bro. Um, yeah I hope to become a moderator on this wiki someday. I edited it almost everyday before I became a user for almost a year... and um... one day I want that wish to become true. Oh, and... tell "ramrod" from the forums that "Mr.Clucky1" is sorry. Please. --Theyellowdart 05:51, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Ummm.... 'kay. Thunderbird 01:57, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. ramrod is a good mod. Tell him I said that too... nah I'm just kidding. Anyway, thanks dude! --Theyellowdart 04:05, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help out

 • Hey, I'm thinking about creating a new page, but I don't know what to call it and I don't know all of its info. The page will be about interuppted names Strong Bad usually starts sounding out before getting interrupted by someone. Such as in bottom 10: He says, "and the number one spot in my bottom 10 is... Th--" and then gets interrupted. Please help out. I am sending this to all sysops. --TheYellowDart(t/c)

[edit] Lucky Yates Show

Is there any reason why you made several links to the Lucky Yates Show but never created that page? It doesn't look very good having those three red links on non-talk pages. Homestar-Winner (talk) 01:35, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Those are there for concerned folks such as yourself to create a page for it. There should be a page, that's a constant reminder to create one... Eventually. Thunderbird 06:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My way cool user's list

Hey Thunderbird, if you want you can put this on your user page:

It's not quite right and you don't have to if you dont want to. Pacoman 20:52, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Um, Thunderbird? I changed my users list box so people wouldn't get it confused with the subtitles project (because of the pic) so my new userbox is under way and will be available at my talk page soon (I hope). Thanks Pacoman 03:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Here you go!!!

Thanks to theyellowdart for fixing it for me Pacoman 01:52, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NYU Talk DVD

Hi, T-bird. You're back! At least it appears that way... or perhaps you never left? Anyway, I'm posting a message to you here in the hopes you'll find it. Long ago I meant to ask if you ever received the DVD I sent you of the NYU Talk. It probably arrived safely, but I never knew for sure. I also would like to thank you (four years belated) for the Flashforward 2006 Seattle CD you sent me. Have a great one! —THE PAPER PREEEOW 07:24, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I received it, thanks. I actually never left, I've still been here to check the new toon every week, I just haven't been contributing much, because all the things I wanted to do and projects I wanted to spearhead have been done, and I no longer feel my touch is needed on certain things or projects to get them just right. Since my lapse in contributing, everything has been running quite nicely, confirming my feelings of not being indispensable. Thunderbird 19:13, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
