I've noticed the same thing. If you're looking for another color, but there's not a name for the color you want, you can define it using hexadecimal notation:

• <font color=#A08803> Like this. </font>

The first two digits are the red channel, the second two are the green channel, and the third two are the blue channel. The numbers go from 00 to FF hexadecimal (0 to 255 decimal), with 00 being all the way off and FF being all the way on.

Here's a sample of some colors: #000000, #FF0000, #00FF00, #0000FF, #FFF159, #E3217E, #E55B17, #00975D, #5E4EBE, #805934, #DDDDDD (#FFFFFF would be white). Experiment and have fun. — It's dot com 17:59, 8 Apr 2005 (MDT)

[edit] Towards a more standards-compliant signature

For the sake of web standards, I suggest you stop using the font tag. Instead, you should use a span tag with a style declaration, like so:

<span style="color: #FFD700;">⇔Thunderbird⇔</span>

In addition, there is a standard set of colors called "web-safe" colors. The idea is that not all monitors are created equal. There are certain colors that older monitors are not capable of displaying. Different folks will see your signature color differently depending on their monitors. This is why some people say they can read one color and others complain that they can't read that color at all. The web safe colors use only 0, 3, 6, 9, C, and F, and the first two, middle two, and last two sets of characters must be the same. So, on the list above, #CCCC00, #FFAA00, and #EEEE00 are the only web-safe colors.

One more thing: the double arrow you use in your sig isn't an allowed character in the character set used on the wiki (the character set is called "utf-8" but that's not important for you to know). Instead of typing the character with an Alt code or pasting it in from somewhere else, you can use an "entity code" to represent the character and cause it to display properly in all browsers. This should work for those who are seeing question marks in your sig instead of the arrows. The character entity code you should use is ⇔ (&#8660;).

Using the span tag, web-safe colors, and proper character entity codes will make the web a happier and more forward-compatible place. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or any other member of the validation committee. Thanks. — Joey (talk·edits) 21:59, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

This is all good stuff, but I don't see why you should have to limit your color choices to "web-safe" colors. This is the 21st century! It's time for people with old monitors to upgrade or miss out. (And we would be talking about some really old monitors here. I have several monitors that are at least eight years old and they have no problems displaying full 24-bit color.) — It's dot com 22:41, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Floppy Disk Container (sans Plus)

Hi there, Thunderbird. After reading some comments about the reasons why there should be a reduction of the title, I decided to go ahead and move all the content from the "Floppy Disk Container Plus" to Floppy Disk Container that formerly was a redirect. I moved the talk page as well, so nothing except the edit history will be lost. I even changed all the links that pointed to the Plus article to the current location and changed the plus article to a redirect. I hope you don't mind me being so bold in my decisions to the extent where I was editing your user page to reflect the change. It's just that I felt it was time to "make the move". I noticed you mentioning this to The Paper, too. SWEET DEAL!!! All day today, I'd been dreaming of what it would be like to be sysop'd, only to get home and find Firebird and Jay left me in the dust. My sadness turned to extaticness however, when Tom alearted me to a possible e-mail of monolithic proportions drifting amongst my junk mail. I replied, and within minutes my computer began to shake and rattle, exploding with the power of sysopness. So that's my story. And thank you so much Admins, I am deeply honored. Just what sightings do you have in mind? If you mean things like the Buffy appearance, Ryan S on Survivor, ect, I really think you're onto something. I do think the page needs a major overhaul/cleaning. But I really think the page for interviews and appearances should be seperate, only for offical, TBC speakings and interviewings. Let's get the one page up and running first, and then we'll try and figure out just how to clean out the sightings page. I, as well as likely any of the other sysops, will be happy to hear your ideas for how to clean up this long and disorganized page. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 00:15, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I was thinking the Macromedia Flash 8 sighting, the buffy sighting, anything thats not just random (like the kids watching an email in Supersize Me or someone wearing a t-shirt).
