Fanstuff Discussion
I was the one who originally said this was better left for being on the fanstuff wiki (I put the deleted thing on, but Tabacco removed it I guess). Anyone else thinks this should be put as fanstuff? Because it's not a part of the official homestarrunner.com site. ColdReactive
- This differs from fanstuff, as this is an official licensed Homestar Runner game (like the long-delayed Homestar Runner RPG or the appearance of "Trogdor" in Guitar Hero). Since it is official licensed (and even being "developed" by Videletrix), then this will be documented by the regular Wiki. The same thing would count towards things like Strong Bad Gameways or any of the live appearances. wbwolf (t | ed) 17:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Info For you!
Intrepid editors may find this page helpful. It's not 100% done yet but since we're running late we wanted to get something up with more info. --Tabacco 22:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Heyyyyy, the whole site is up now! --Tabacco 22:52, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
And you can play too!
Too bad this game can't be played by me. Not everyone's good enough to get a Wii. Although the article says it's also for the PC, I highly doubt that will be a reality. It makes me so frustrated when new consoles come out. Especially onces that cost over 200 USD, when I could get something productive (Like Photoshop CS3 Extended) for 320 USD. Which I will get 'cause I have no Wii. Why not get the wii, you ask? Because I want my damnz photoshop! Been entirely too long since I last had it. ColdReactive
- It will be out for the PC. Guaranteed. --Tabacco 23:13, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- What retailers will you be distributing to? Target? Wal-Mart? If it's K-Mart, I advise against it. Madison, WI has no K-Marts whatsoever. Also, will it be good for only Vista? Because I can't switch to Vista, my computer won't allow me to upgrade my BIOS to do so. Besides, dozens upon dozens of users say Vista is crap for Gaming.
ColdReactive
- Our first run distribution is almost always through our website as downloads. With Sam & Max, we released the games as downloads and then once the whole season was over we assembled a disc and offered it up free to season subscribers. Not sure if that's what we're doing for Strong Bad (nobody tells me anything fun), but they will be available to download from our site. And no, they won't be Vista only. Our system spec is pretty generous in fact, so it shouldn't require too new and crazy a computer. --Tabacco 23:18, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Do you expect people to buy over the Internet only? Or are the downloads free? Because I somewhat despise Internet purchasing. Of course, I do have a Debit Card (Sorry, will never, ever use a Credit Card) if I so need to do an online transaction. But I haven't used the card in over 4 months.
ColdReactive
- It sounds like Tabacco answered this in his last post: they'll certainly be available for download, but if that's not an option for you, it's possible that they will be eventually released on disc format.
Trey56 23:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Some sites require you to pay for certain downloads though. Like "Adobe Extend."
ColdReactive
- Yep, this game will cost money, just as the exclusive DVD content does through the Homestar Runner store. It's good too; I've often wondered if there was a way for TBC to make some money off of their games! Fans have been able to support them by buying DVDs for a while, so I think this is great.

- Still awaiting answer for if we have to buy over the Internet, or if we can send in check/money orders.
ColdReactive
- We also accept Paypal and Wire Transfer. You can use the latter if you like. --Tabacco 23:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- You stil didn't say if I can use check or money order though; I will only use them. If you can't do money order / etc. it's better off not to purchase. Not everyone likes the Internet... I'm sure not liking it anymore... I've been distancing myself from it more and more.
ColdReactive
- No, we don't take checks or money order. You sound pretty determined not to purchase, so I'm not sure why you're so insistent on pushing the issue, honestly. I think we can call this closed. --Tabacco 00:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Legal Rampage Issue
Transcripts are at the heart of our wiki, allowing us to have a reference guide for Homestarrunner.com and to save us the hassle of sitting through an entire toon to check a line or scene. With this in mind, to what extent will we transcribe the game? I'm against the idea of recording EVERY single line for two reasons: firstly, it would be a massive job to do. Undoubtedly there'll be tens of thousands of lines of dialogue throughout the game and it'll be impossible to find and store them all. The second reason is for legal issues: it seems to be OK to transcribe toons on the website since the transcripts won't significantly affect page views to the website and the toons are free in the first place. This game, on the other hand, will not be: the point of buying and playing the game is to find the dialogue yourself. And I don't want Telltale's lawyers to hit this wiki with a cease-and-desist order if they feel our actions harm the sales of their game. However, I think it'd still be OK to write walkthroughs and post Fun Facts on the game, in a similar manner to other websites. – The Chort 19:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- A few minor stylistic things aside, I think the best way to "transcribe" this game (I don't think that's the right word) would be entirely similar to Thy Dungeonman II however, without creating the companion page Thy Dungeonman II Messages. This system would give us the fun facts and the walk-through and the glitches and the tips and everything else that you would expect from The Wiki, without any of the legal or commercial issues you spoke of. I mean Tabacco seems to be very involved in The Wiki (at least concerning SBCG4AP), and with Telltale's consent I see no problem making a Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Messages page or something of that ilk (but with FAR fewer syllables).

- Exactly; we seem to have plenty of communication with Telltale through Tabacco, so I'm sure that we can make sure whatever we do is acceptable to them (and TBC). It would be nice to have everything transcribed (transcriptions of game messages aren't a substitute for playing the game, in the same way that you don't forget about watching the cartoons and just read the transcripts - but even more so, as it's interactive), but obviously that depends on their wishes. -- Mithent 09:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- I can't see how there'd be a legal issue *period* if we thoroughly "mapped out" this game. If there *was*, GameFAQs wouldn't exist. Furthermore, I've seen numerous "Game Scripts" there. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if someone beat us to it. Exhibit A -YK

- Second. There's stuff on GameFAQs that's much more in-depth than is sane, even for us. Plus, we transcribe DVD-only content all the time, and TBC don't mind. And since TBC are working so close with Telltale, I doubt they'd let them sue us either. --DorianGray 05:20, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

New gameplay/interview video
There's a video here showing off some of the gameplay (including Snake Boxer V footage), as well as an interview with some of the developers (I assume this is new, I didn't see it mentioned on the page anywhere). I think IGN are going to interview TBC about the game tomorrow, but I'm not sure... --ENUSY

- On a related note, it looks like the Kotaku review of the game demo has some more detailed information that was is revealed in the Game Videos piece. wbwolf (t | ed) 18:03, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
External link organization
Since it looks like this game will produce a large number of external links (IGN et al. game reviews, material from Telltale, forums), how should we organize them? Traditionally, we've put forum links on the bottom (which in this case would include both Telltale's and ours), and material directly from Telltale at the top. But should we make subsections for each? I'm trying to think of scalability at this point. wbwolf (t | ed) 16:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think you're right, it will helpful to have them divided up into sub-sections. I liked what you did, but I tried reorganizing it a bit differently. Not sure if it's optimal yet; maybe we'll have to wait to see what kinds of external links we end up getting as it's released.
