HRWiki:Changing username
From Homestar Runner Wiki
The user name users choose for themselves is no longer set in stone. On request, Bureaucrats can change user account settings and article histories such that all previous edits of a given user are attributed to the new name using Special:Renameuser. Note - you must make the request from the account you want renamed; anonymous requests are ignored for security reasons.
Requesting a change
- To change your user name, please make your request on this page.
Instructions
Please follow the procedure carefully or your request will not be fulfilled.
- Check if the new name you want does not exist (Special:Listusers). Do not create an account under the new name. (If you already created the new account, don't worry. Tom can do some stuff and fix it, but it's still recommended that you don't.)
- Sign in with the account that you want renamed.
- Of course, this is not possible if your account has a lowercase first letter. If you can't log in, then skip this step.
- Add your request in the section below.
- If you are a sysop, please note this fact with your request so that the necessary changes can be made.
- Once your request is dealt with, all edits from your old account will be reattributed to your new account.
- You should check that the old account has been recreated and blocked to prevent someone else creating the account and impersonating you.
- This can not be done in the case of lowercase first letter usernames, but they can no longer be registered so this isn't a problem.
- You will probably want to move and redirect your userpage and talk page after changing.

Bkmlb(talk to me·stuff I did) 18:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC) Only the conributions if possible
- Okay, what username would you like to change it to? -- Tom 19:41, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Can I just have the contributions from bkmlb and Bkmlb. transfered to Bkmlb? I don't care deeply but it would be nice.--

- Can I just have the contributions from bkmlb and Bkmlb. transfered to Bkmlb? I don't care deeply but it would be nice.--
- Please see step number 1 above. Since you already created the account for Bkmlb, I'd have to delete the Bkmlb account in the database in order to move bkmlb there. I can't make any promises, but we could try it if you want. -- Tom 19:56, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, try that.--

Mibluvr13
I'd like my contributions moved from mibluvr13 to Mibluvr13. I'm okay with deleting my current account to do this. -- Mibluvr13 20:41, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll be deleting Mibluvr13 and moving mibluvr13 there now. Hang on to your hat. -- Tom 20:42, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Bwa ha ha ha! I even managed to keep the edits you've made as Mibluvr13. Okay, now, just for consistency's sake, I'm going to block User:mibluvr13 so no one will ever be able to register with that name. (I know they can't now with the lowercase thing, but maybe that will change someday. Who knows?) Thanks for being the test case. -- Tom 21:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've even got my watchlist back. W00tness! -- Mibluvr13 21:17, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Very good. And I can't block User:mibluvr13. No one will be able to register for that name for the same reason I can't block it. Works well enough, I suppose. Now don't forget the rest of the steps. -- Tom 21:20, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
GWR 2004
I made a new account before I learned about this little project. My original username was gwr2004. Any possible way to get my contributions from that account to GWR 2004? I don't care if you have to delete this account or not. —GWR 2004 TalkContribs 01:09, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- "gwr2004" --> "GWR 2004". Done. -- Tom 02:10, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

racerx_is_alive
Capitalization makes me sad. Well, at least capitalizing Racerx_is_Alive makes me sad. But I see there is no other option, so why not make me Racerx_is_Alive. Thanks.
- "racerx_is_alive" --> "Racerx_is_Alive". Done. -- Tom 02:21, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. Maybe in MediaWiki 1.7.2 we will be able to have lowercase names again... :) --Racerx_is_alive 15:15, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Trogga
I just made a new account, Sam Goldfish. Can I keep it? Oh, and sorry for not logging in as Trogga.
- Since it's possible for you to log in as Trogga, could you please so that I can confirm? Thanks. -- Tom 02:22, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Since it is possible for you to log in as User:Trogga, I wanted confirmation that it was actually you that made the request. Was it you? Do you still want to do it? -- Tom 20:34, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
- "Trogga" --> "Sam Goldfish". Done. And User:Trogga has been blocked so no one can steal your old username. -- Tom 01:19, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks.
--Sam Goldfish 17:36, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks.

Like everyone else I already created an account as Phlip... phlip TC 05:27, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

ackicantthinkofaname
My old username was ackicantthinkofaname, with the displayed name of breadtangle, however, I would now like to switch to the new username of breadtangle. However, because of my old displayed name this isn't possible, and I can't log in to fix it because of the lowercase first letter. Could ackicantthinkofaname be changed to breadtangle, or if not possible, can you remove the displayed name?
- I need you to answer two and only two questions:
- What was your old username? (This would be what you used to type in the "Username" field on the Special:Userlogin page.)
- What do you want your new username to be? (This can not have a lowercase first letter.)
- Thanks. -- Tom 21:41, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- ackicantthinkofaname
- Breadtangle
- "Breadtangle" is already taken. Any other ideas? -- Tom 01:15, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- I think it's taken only because of my old display name, which was indeed breadtangle.
- "Breadtangle" is already taken. Any other ideas? -- Tom 01:15, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Nope, it's another different and unique user. I checked. -- Tom 01:39, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, and if you'd like to check for yourself, please see this search of Special:Listusers. -- Tom 01:41, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
- Cwapface. Umm...fine, then can you just capitalize ackicantthinkofaname?
- "ackicantthinkofaname" --> "Ackicantthinkofaname". Done. -- Tom 20:09, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

furrykef
I know he hasn't been around for a while, but he is a Sysop. And if he tries to come around and edit anything in the future, he's gonna find his username's not working very well. Is the sysopness gonna be a problem at all, and are you gonna preemptivly capitalize his name, or wait until/if he comes around looking to log in? ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 06:59, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- If you'd like to leave him a message about it, I suggest you use his Wikipedia user talk page, since (as you also noted) he isn't around here much. -- Tom 20:43, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Go ahead. - Kef (who can't log in 'cause of the switch - see my Wikipedia talk page for verification)

I know he may never come back again, but I think that we should at least change his username if he tries to come back and can't log in. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 20:24, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- Please refrain from making requests for other users. If anyone tries to log in and cannot, they will receive the MediaWiki:Noname notice, which directs them to this page. Thanks. -- Tom 22:05, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

- "Another Strong Badian" --> "President Cold One". Done. -- Tom 04:42, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
Lappy 486---->Salty
Can I have my name changed to Salty? Also, when I sign with the two hyphens and four tildes, it says my name is already Salty. I don't know why. --Lappy 486 04:32, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- "Lappy 486" --> "Salty". Done. And you probably changed your sig preferences to display Salty instead of Lappy 486. -- Tom 05:47, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
Aerosmth Rules
When I made this account, I accidentally spelled Aerosmith as Aerosmth. Can I have it "Aerosmith Rules" instead of "Aerosmth Rules"? This will make it easier for people to reffer to me incase they didn't notice the missing "i". Thanks for your time. Aerosmth rules 01:50, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
