Legend

Is the legend really needed anymore? It was put up so we would know what was transcribed and what wasn't, and that was way back in early March. Everything is done now. I think it kind of clutters the layout. -- Tom 12:01, 20 Jul 2004 (MST)

I don't like the "F" idea either. I guess I like the idea of a simple list. The table of contents in each email shows what's in it... But that's after you click on the individual email. Maybe we could use catagories? Each toon with an easter egg gets added to a catagory called "Easter Eggs". Then there would be a list of the toons that just have Easter Eggs... Hmm... How to Move an Email

This is mainly for my own benefit. I keep forgetting one or two of these steps. Hopefully, a checklist will be helpful.

Copying the email

1. Using InterruptorJones' Convertulator.php, copy the summary page, the transcript page, and the easter eggs page.
2. Add "Screenshot" and "Transcript" headers, and change "Additional Information" to "External Links".
3. Put any emails in the transcript in "pre" blocks.
4. Change "See the email" to "watch {title}" and "See the forum thread" to "forum thread re: {title}" in external links.
5. Don't forget CamelCase words that don't have partheses. Add spaces where appropriate. (e.g. "StrongBadEmail" to "Strong Bad Email".)
6. Update link destinations so they are compatible with new organization methods (e.g. sbemails that are sub-paged on the old wiki).
7. Add any appropriate category declarations to the bottom.
8. Update the transcript (might as well while you're at it) to the latest standard format.

Copying user comments

1. Copy the User Comments page (if one exists) to the discussion page for the email.
2. Convert links from (()) to [[]].
3. Don't forget CamelCase words that don't have parentheses. Add spaces where appropriate. (e.g. "StrongBadEmail" to "Strong Bad Email".)
4. Update link destinations so they are compatible with new organization methods (e.g. sbemails that are sub-paged on the old wiki).
5. Make sure usernames are in the correct form (i.e. User:JoeyDay|JoeyDay)

Discussion

I think we should scrap the old User Comments pages. Most of them don't contain anything useful or relevant, and with all the usernames we wind up making links to a lot of userspaces that may not exist. What do you guys think? -- InterruptorJones 08:50, 23 Aug 2004 (MST)

Okay, I haven't been copying the User Comments. I think we might want to put them under a certain defined section heading in the "discussion page" if we are going to copy them. I also haven't been converting usernames. (Actually, I don't think I've come across any...) I mean, we haven't heard from some of these people in a long time... Should we create pages for them? I don't really know how we are going to copy over the userspaces of people that aren't really that active. I mean, they are going to have to register, right? What if they choose "Joey Day" instead of "JoeyDay"? Redirects? Hmm... another thing. They sure better get their aliases and "old usernames" straightened out before they come over here. I don't want them to abuse the redirects. I know it's a solution to the problem that they are all having, but I just don't like the quick fix. It makes it too easy for them to change their username. Bah.

I was thinking we should just copy the informational pages, then let them copy their own userspace and let them figure out how to fit them on one page. This is another good reason (when this happens) to lock the 'Tavi database and stick it somewhere so when somebody shows up in a month and a half, they can still go back and copy something.

I think subpages should be allowed in userspace. On Wikipedia this feature is usually used to store drafts and the like. While I'm sure most of our users would never use it or care about it, I think somebody out there might want it. - furrykef 01:06, 14 Aug 2004 (MST)

I think perhaps we should create an ad-hoc namespace for sbemails. For instance, instead of [[pom pom (email)]] we would type [[sbemail:pom pom|]], which the software will convert to [[sbemail:pom pom|pom pom]] and display like this: pom pom. That way we won't have name conflicts with Pom Pom (character), which could then be renamed Pom Pom. - furrykef 01:11, 14 Aug 2004 (MST)

SBEmails by state

I know you got this idea from the forum just now, but does HRWiki:Once And Only Once apply? But hey, I'm thinking if someone wants to make a page with all the locations each email was sent from, that's cool. Or a page with what the most common words in emails are. (the:157, a:97, crap:37) Or a page of email sender's names. Ya know. But keep them on seperate pages. Updating

Okay, I got a question. On items that need updating or things that simply need to be added, old comics for example, do we do that ourselves, or let the people do that when we open the wiki back up? I mean...it'd give em something to do right off the bat, right? Also, don't we have a page stating things that need to be updated and added? Strong Bad Email template

We need some kind of navigation on the individual Strong Bad Email pages. Check out the Wikipedia 2004 Olympics page for an idea of what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure how feasible this is, but it should at least have a link back to the Strong Bad Email page, along with links to the previous and next emails. I'm working on reverse engineering the Template:Olympic_Games on Wikipedia. Let me know if you figure anything out. --JoeyDay 11:32, 13 Sep 2004 (MST)

Most Recent SBEmail

Edit concerning current rap

I changed "My name is not normal, but still I rock well!" to "My name is not Norman, but still I rock well!" because he obviously says Norman, because Norman Rockwell was a famous artist. Is this edit okay? Does it make sense? I think it does.

I've had to fix this several times today. I just added a note in the wikicode to help explain the point: Attention editors that may think that "Norman" should be changed to "normal": Norman Rockwell was an early 20th century American painter. Eras???

Do you think we should have the emails by computer eras as well as name, location etc... By eras i mean like when the 2 computers are destroyed/replaced but i'll have to wait until compy is replaced. Anyways I could easily do it- lemme know what you think -- Asploder

I don't think it's necessary. It would be a bit pointless, since it would essentially be all the e-mails in chronological order. Also, we only have two eras thus far (soon to be three), which really isn't enough. --Upsilon

New Email Fun Facts

Notice how new e-mails are just being flooded with new fun facts? It's kind of annoying, since they ususally have already been posted or are just plain stupid. I think we need a standard, but what? I know one thing, and that is that all new fun facts should go at the bottom of the list, so it's easier to check for trolling. But I can't really come up with anything else. I think it's a good idea, but I don't know if it would combat trolling, because trolls mostly (always) don't follow the rules. They'd probably put their junk in the middle of the fun facts. But I digress. I think it's a good idea. --Homsar999 My Talk Page

My Computer Sucks

Does it mean there's something seriously wrong with my computer if when I go to "sb emails" it still takes to me to the compy menu that went with montage? -Miss Free Country USA

Nope, it usually means you need to hard refresh the page. In both Internet Explorer and Firefox you do that by pressing Ctrl+F5 while you're looking at the sb emails page. If that doesn't work, you may need to clear out your tempoarary internet files. —JoeyDay (Talk) 13:42, 30 Nov 2004 (MST)

Opening the Menu

Did anyone else notice that Strong Bad no longer types "dir/p" to load the e-mails menu? (He types "strongbad_email.exe" now.) I'm wondering where to put it (if it belongs at all).—StrongstarRunbad 21:08, 10 Dec 2004 (MST)

a> Prompt Location

In some of the e-mails, the a> prompt appears just below the e-mail when it loads. In others, it appears on the bottom of the screen. Should that be noted somewhere for each of the emails? Or is it just an insignifigant technicality, like the number of times SB moves his head back and forth in the e-mail? Wait-maybe we should put that in too... I would be glad to work on this if people think its worthwhile. -pianoplayerontheroof

but-looking back- does this info really have a purpose? I mean, it kinda makes sense to have all the page titles, but the position of the prompt and what SB types, all on different pages? maybe some kind of chart with them all on it... No Fun Facts any longer

I noticed that User:Kemek changed all fun facts to "Trivia", as well as made some other sections. I rather have a full fun facts section back. Anyone? →[[User:FireBird|FireBird]]

I didn't intend to eliminate the Fun Facts section. Rather, the plan is to separate them into categories to prevent the kind of confusion that ensues each time a new Strong Bad Email is released. There's been discussion on several pages as to what to do and this seemed like the consensus. If I'm mistaken please accept my apologies; I only want to do what's best for the Wiki.
