Blackhead-Flaced Janice

Should it be pointed out that Blackhead-Flaced Janice is a joke on the misspelling of Pilmple-faced Bill? Is it possible to over-"over-analyze"?

Give the HRWiki:Standards a read. I'd say this qualifies as both obvious and explaining the joke. So... no. 64.198.255.1 20:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Homestar's Song

although it's similar, the song homestar's singing isn't the one from anything and the paper. that one comes from "never-ending story", but this one is different. i don't know where it's from, but i'm still deleting that inside reference. --Zatchman 07:03, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm considering the "Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away" part of Orinoco Flow by Enya? -- Mithent 08:48, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
i can see what you're coming from, but he says the line 4 times instead of three, so i'm guessing it's something else. --Zatchman 08:59, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
It reminds me more of the Hot Hot Heat song Bandages, but again he says it four times instead of three. Stev0 15:47, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Sounds a lot like "Walking on Broken Glass" by Annie Lennox Havl 20:57, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
That's really not how the song goes at all.LikeAsItself 00:15, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
It sounds to me like the Flintstone kids theme. "Yabba dab yabba dab yabba dabba do" FSK
Well, apparently, if everyone thinks it's something different, it has to be TTATOT.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 21:16, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Not necessarily, because it's possible that all but one of those people are wrong. :)
Just to clarify: the song Homestar sings in anything is the same tune as the themesong from The Neverending Story; that's an objective fact that can be demonstrated by anyone who knows musical notation. If a bunch of people came in saying "I think it sounds like the theme from Night Court!" and "No, it's totally 'Yesterday' by the Beatles!" and "Wait, I could swear I heard that tune in a Bach fugue somewhere" and "Are you sure it isn't from Merzbow's new album?", that wouldn't make it TTATOT. It would still actually be a reference to The Neverending Story, and all those other people would just be wrong.
No, it's not the same. It's starts the same, but the end is different enough to make it obviously not the same.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 08:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I think you misread me. I'm talking about the song in anything ("The neverending soda"), not the one in licensed. I was using it as an example of a clear, indisputible reference, to make a more general point about the definition of "TTATOT." This new one isn't a clear, indisputible reference to anything I've heard, although obviously I haven't heard everything.
I agree with the Flintstones Kids theme. Awexome 22:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
There are a lot of unsigned posts here, but I am making the judgement that this is a TTATOT connection, and unless a really positive match arises for this to be a parody of, it's not anything. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 09:51, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I think the above people are onto something with the Flintstones Kids theme. For those who have knocked it, to clarify: this is referring to the 90's cartoon show, not the vitamin jingle, which is nothing alike. The idea's not too far-fetched, and we know TBC have heard of it from the TGS 7 commentary. Shall maybe everyone give it a listen to be sure? I'm pulling it out of a decade-old memory here, avoiding listening to the link, and I think it's a fair match. Should they be doing it from memory, like I am, isn't a teeny bit of off-keyness expected? Plus, I mean...it's Homestar. He's flat allthedang time. -- Onamuji 14:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it sounds sort of kind of almost like the Flintstone Kids theme song, but it sounds as much like everything else mentioned above. I vote for TTATOT. Stev0 14:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
The most convincing thing here is "walking on broken glass" which i have never heard, so i don't know if it sounds like it or not, but makes sense as it's ABOUT broken glass... — Defender1031*Talk 16:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Check it out. "Walking on Broken Glass" Havl 18:59, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I have to go with "Walking on Broken Glass," too. Yes, the tune HR sings has similarities to other tunes as well (which can't really be avoided, it's essentially "three notes, pause, three notes, pause, etc)", taking the subject matter of that song into account, it'd be too big of a coincidence to ignore, imo. -DAGRON 22:35, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
But "Walking on Broken Glass" goes note, up a note, down a note (ie, same as the first). Homestar's song goes note, note, down a half note (except for the first "Broken glass" which admittedly has almost the same pattern, ie note, up a note, down a half note). Stev0 01:42, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I agree that it's not exactly the same, which is why I'm actually more hesitant than my first post makes me out to be, looking at it again. -DAGRON 03:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Juys. I'm that age where I know all these tunes. It's not any of them. At all. Trust me. I cannot yet divine what, if anything, that tune refers to. (Are you aware I perform and figure out songs professionally?) Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:04, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
your job is to figure out what songs are being lampooned by others? huh. at any rate, no, i don't think most people were aware. --Zatchman 05:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

"Human noses?"

Does Strong Bad imply that he is not human? Has this ever happened before?

I was wondering about that myself. I know it was in a quick joke, and may not hold a lot of weight, but I think something like whether or not you're human isn't something that you casually contradict in a joke with out paying attention. You wouldn't say "It looks just like me except with a human nose" even as a joke, unless it was already given that you weren't human, or at least weren't considered human.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 08:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
well, no matter how you look at it, he doesn't have a human nose, just like how homestar and the like don't have arms or pants, and those are mentioned all the time, too. i don't think it has much bearing on what anybody is. --Zatchman 08:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Except he said "human nose". It would have been just like Homestar's arms if he just said "nose". The humor in that, just like the humor in fingers is adding something to him that he should have but obviously doesn't. It's the same way with the word human. The humor in adding a human nose to him is that he has no nose and he's not human.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 09:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Naw, i agree with Neumannz, it's not notable beyond his lack of a visible one, whether he said human or not. — Defender1031*Talk 09:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I think that "human" here was intended to mean "realistic". These are not cartoon noses, or animal noses. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm with E.L. Cool on this one. I definitely think he meant shaped noses, with nostrils and a bridge and all that good stuff, as opposed to a simple little ball nose, like the one Stro Bro has on the side of the Puddin' Patch. -- Onamuji 12:57, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I think this joke has been referenced in alternate universe before. Danny Lilithborne 15:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

A mousy description? / Coach Z can't talk.

First, I'm not sure about that description of the Cheat's mural picture. His pudginess and distinctive, if unlabelled, jar of Hunny seem to suggest Winnie the Pooh to me. (The antennae, obviously, are out of place.)

Second, does Coach Z say "You're toys" or "You're twice"? I definitely heard the latter, which I can imagine him saying because he's weird, but the former makes sense too. Any thoughts? -- Onamuji 12:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

yeah, i hear "twice" ---Zatchman 16:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I originally heard it as "toys" (and put it that way in the subtitles), but it now seems closer to "twice", even with Coach Z's accent. ZanderSchubert 23:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I heard"toys" or "twoise". [[User:Justin Master of Nature|Master of Nature]] 19:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Shut up, lady!

Have this voice and Strong Bad's response appeared enough times now for us to consider it a running gag? I know it occurred in bottom 10, and I think one other...though I wouldn't swear to it. -- Onamuji 12:59, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

as noted in inside references, the second one was your funeral. i don't know enough about the rules of running gags to say whether this should be considered one. --Zatchman 16:12, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

The "Jungle Animals in Non-Jungle Situations" thing reminds me heavily of the Cartoon Network show "My Gym Partner is a Monkey." Anyone else?

I think "Shut up, Lady" should be considered a running gag. Three instances have warranted others to be added if my memory serves my correctly. The fact we've seen it in 3 toons set far apart from each other tells me that TBC find it funny and would add it into future toons. Stribbs 17:34, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Gunkistan?

Why got the Facts about Gunkistan being a portmanteau and a inside reference to Gunk Iller deleted?

It may be because they're wrong...The portmanteau is less obviously incorrect, but technically -stan and is a suffix, a word in some language (Arabic) meaning "land," which is why it's used at the end of so many countries (Afghanistan = Land of the Afghanis, Kazakhstan = Land of the Kazakhs, etc.). This would make it not a portmanteau. As for the other one, being a reference to the Gunk Iller, I see no reason why this was up there in the first place. Gunk is a very common term for any gross, ambiguous substance.
I disagree with you on the portmanteau subject. if you look at the Portmanteaus page you'll notice "Millionzoic", "Tenthennial" and "Geographist", all words with a general suffix. Gunkistan should be there too. Maybe I was a little off by saying that it's in particular park Pakistan, but that's the only country that have the letter K to form -kistan (Gun-Kistan). I'm not readding it still so it won't start to be and edit war, but I think it should be discussed. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 21:59, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
What about Kyrkistan? And almost Kazakhstan... Stev0 01:45, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Old Lady

Now that the Old Lady made a third appearance, should we revive her page? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 16:34, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Two things

1.) Are we sure Homestar is singing "broken glass?" because I heard "working class". 2.) Will the shady daycare be haunting anybody else's nightmares or just mine?

"Working Class" makes no sense. The pinatas were filled with broken glass as evidenced by the multiple lacerations and shards on Homestar's face. Since Strong Bad asked Homestar to reveal what was contained there-in. In true Homestar way he sung it. Stribbs 17:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
1) definitely broken glass, 2) just yours --Zatchman 17:51, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
"Working Class" makes so much more sense that its more than a little surprising that someone would post it. The fact that they did it anonymously makes me wonder if it was another trollish post designed to incite an argument. Its a wonder that someone didn't call this person names. -JamesDean
there's still time for that --Zatchman 02:26, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Bubs arms.

Has anyone noticed that Bubs arms are animated the same way they were in Nightlife and how Coach Z's were in Trogday 08?--KirbychuHR'D 20:13, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes. It's a new style design. Individually drawn per frame. It seems to be the way things are done from now on. --DorianGray 20:15, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Toucan Sam, Zazu, and Cinderella

fourcans
The cover of "Jungle Animals in Decidedly Non-Jungle Situations" has a variation of The Cheat similar to The Lion King (The Cheat resembles Zazu) and Toucan Sam, mascot of Froot Loops. The other is Cinderella.
This is in desperate need of rewording, but first we need to decide what we're doing with it. It can't be Zazu and Toucan Sam. Isn't that TTATOT? I don't really think it's either. It's just a toucan. A random jungle animal. Also, are we sure the other DVD is a play on Cinderella? It seems likely, but not certain. But if so, it needs to be worded better.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 21:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Or is it just generally agreed that it's pointless to mention any of that crap? I'm for that, too.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 21:11, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I think the refernce to Zazu can go, but Toucan Sam should stay. The Cheat looks nothing like Zazu, beyond the blue color and big beak, nor does he look much like a real toucan, but the striped beak gives him a strinking resemlance to Toucan Sam. Exhibit A (talk · edits) 21:15, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, if it looks like anything, it's Sam.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 22:15, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it's generic, but the overall feel is the lion king. — Defender1031*Talk 22:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Zazu's not even a toucan. He's a hornbill. --DorianGray 22:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Bioshock Reference?

Does the singing child at the daycare remind anyone else of the 2nd little sister sighting in Bioshock? The little sister is heard singing a song to the same tune, in a very creepy way. The fact that they're both singing the same tune, both children and the fact that it is very creepy in both cases suggests a reference, no?

Senor Cardgage is not a child. And it's a common kid's tune. And Senor is always creepy, so it might not be a reference. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:31, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Toys R Us

Ugly Bird

Anyone else think that Homestar calling the swollen, floating The Cheat an "Ugly Bird" is a reference to... um... the one other email (I forget which one) where Homestar called a swollen, floating The Cheat an "Ugly Bird?"

Someone else sure does, thats why they mentioned it in the article: The Easter egg where Homestar sees The Cheat float by and thinks he's an ugly bird is a reference to helium. -JamesDean

Blood?

Just wondering how blood is an "Inside Reference." You don't have to be a Homestar Runer fan to fully appreciate blood jokes. Catman87

Because blood is a recurring element/gag in some toons. The blood page ties all appearances of blood together in a list. --DorianGray 23:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Disney DVDs

The DVDs resemble Cinderella and The Lion King. Awexome 02:08, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

One problem, however is that The Lion King does not feature non-jungle situations. I think "The Wild" would be a closer match. Bad Bad Guy 14:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

For reasons I can no longer remember, I originally thought the "4" in the title of the Cinderella parody was a reference to the fact Disney made a Cinderella 3 last year. Bad Bad Guy 00:34, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Toothbrush

Could someone explain the toothbrush? Awexome 02:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

it's a novelty "sugar toothbrush" which i guess means it spins the sugary SB head against a kid's teeth --Zatchman 02:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

What's it supposed to be a parody of? Awexome 02:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

What that description brings to my mind is those Cap Spin Pop devices that spin the little lollipops while they are licked. Bad Bad Guy 02:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking too. It's a lollipop, not a toothbrush. Evidence: electric toothbrushes don't spin like that, there is no evidence of bristles of any kind, it's extremely lollipop-shaped, and the usage of words like "rot the teeth out of" and "sugar". Also, given the other unlicensed merch (and unlicensed merch in general), a spinning lollipop fits much better than a toothbrush. As such, the explanation about novelty toothbrushes should either be reworded or outright destroyed. --DorianGray 04:52, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Note also that he's talking specifically about unlicensed confections at that point (if we weren't already clear...). -DAGRON 04:57, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Homestar's Birthday

You're assuming Homestar knows what he's talking about. This is not a safe assumption. Stev0 01:35, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
So you're saying that he is so stupid that he doesn't even know whether it's really his birthday or not? TheTeach!
Seeing as how he doesn't even know he's not wearing pants, yes, I am saying he's that stupid. Stev0 01:48, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
he does know about the pants, it's just sometimes traumatic to think about it (long pants) --Zatchman 05:05, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I says until they have a cartoon that specifically depicts his birthday, we can't really know. There's no guarantee that they had the party that day, or that the party was on the same day as his actual birthday, or, as aforementioned, that Homestar had any idea what he was talking about.--.Johnny Jupiter! talk cont 06:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
