A lot of the time, especially in Strong Bad Emails, when one or more characters sings to music, they sing in a key that does not match the tune they are singing to. This usually happens when the music clip is very brief.

Examples

  • Email highschool — The song "Havin' Fun With My Friends" is in the key of C, but Homestar Runner sings in G.
  • One Two, One Two — Although it's unclear what key the first part of the song is in (before the Homsar solo), Marzipan plays the second half with a riff in E, but Strong Bad sings in B. He also sings in C-sharp before the Homsar solo.
  • Email fan club — When Strong Sad sings the Strong Badia National Anthem, the tune is in C but he sings in D.
  • Teen Girl Squad Issue 15Tenerence Love sings "Light Purple Cummerbund" in B-flat, but the tune is in C.
  • Where U Goin' 2Marzipan says, "This part's in D." The Cheat proceeds to slide down to a low E. Marzipan says, "Ooh, that's not D." The Cheat then slides up to a high E. Marzipan says, "How about C?" The Cheat angrily slides from a high G down to about the D a step below the high E.
