It's Will Not Bill

On the DVD credits, it says his name is "Willem" not "William" →evin290 14:28, 25 Feb 2005 (MST)

Sure. It's a stub. Feel free to do some research and expand on it. -- Tom 20:47, 22 Jul 2005 (UTC)

2025 Deletion Request

Per this edit the article has been tagged for discussion.

One thing to note about this wiki's coverage is that it is quite thorough. Therefore, even DVD thanks should be documented. Originally, I was going to suggest, at the worst case, merging with Additional Contributors, but then I noticed there's an entire section related to thanks:

  • That section links to this and two more articles: The Future Animators of the Future and Randy Dudley.
  • All 3 articles are short, but at least provide some background information on the subjects in question.
  • Thus, the discussion should cover all 3 articles.

Personally, I'd slightly prefer to keep things as is, but if not, Additional Contributors would have to contain all the information presented (pictures, links, and personal/subject information). It should still fit, but my concern there are the images. Anyway, that's my two pence/cents/hundredths of a dollar. --Stux 16:51, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

My reasoning for the tag is actually to challenge whether "all the information presented" is notable for this wiki's purposes:
  • The article is not particularly informative or relevant. Blue text suggests "click here for more information", a reader of the DVD article would see his name in blue and reasonably think "oh, I wonder what they thanked him for — I'll read the article and see." But the article can only repeat "they thanked him in the credits". What did he do that made them want to thank him? (dunno) Has he been mentioned in commentaries or interviews? (no) Has he come up again in the body of work since? (no, not even in later DVDs) The article goes into his music career, is that because he and/or Breaking Laces contributed music to Homestar? (no) After 20 years, no information has been added that provides anything more than "he's listed in the credits".
    • If we added a couple words to Additional Contributors so the bullet point would read "Willem Hartong — Musician, formerly of Breaking Laces" that would pretty much cover the information from his article. But again, he's not thanked for musical contributions.
    • As a point of comparison, Craig Zobel's directorial career is mentioned because Mike, Matt and/or Missy worked with him on several projects. Other than that, discussion of his non-Homestar work takes up a minuscule portion of his article. By contrast, the majority of Hartong's article covers his work unrelated to Homestar.
    • The Olympic Greasy Watermelon connection between Hartong and FAOTF is a fun coincidence, but it's minor enough where it could be added to the "Fun Facts" section of one of the strongbad_email.exe pages (and, for what it's worth, I found a copy of the movie and there's no sign of anything Homestar-related in the credits).
  • Is the expectation that we should also be adding images and articles for the 30+ companies and individuals who are thanked for their help making the Trogdor board game? Like you say, DVD thanks should be documented but I don't see that we need more than listing his name in the three articles: Additional Contributors, strongbad_email.exe, and strongbad_email.exe Disc Three#Credits.
    • Even at the time, we didn't make articles for fellow DVD thankees Tony Mistretta, Ed Mundy, or Neal Stamper.
    • (do we even have the license to use File:Willem Hartong.jpg?)
In general, especially as I get older, I feel less comfortable with poking around at or airing out individual's histories (this rationale can be extended to Mr. Dudley, too). As a musician doing self-promotion, he's put enough out there that I can expand the article but, again, this wouldn't be H*R-relevant. I could track down a social media profile or an email address and fire off a "hey dude, you don't know me but I was curious why two guys wanted to thank you with your help on a DVD 20 years ago" cold-call, but that doesn't feel appropriate. The FAOTF article is similarly sparse, but in that case there's the relative anonymity of it being a more faceless organization rather than an individual, and its nature of focusing on Flash animation at least adds a little more relevance.
(I do recognize that "let's delete this article that has been around since the Bush administration!" is unlikely to move forward, and "there's a low-quality article on the wiki!" is not particularly srs bsns... but wanted to speak my piece) Bleu Ninja 19:09, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

Is this the right person?

The pictures linked from this page are found from a quick google image search (where I also found these). My question is, I know his name's rather uncommon, but is there any proof (or confirmation) that that's the same person? Is the link I provided also of the correct Willem? --Stux 15:37, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

You might want to ask User:DBK directly, seeing as he was the one who added the link. -- Tom 18:02, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
Ok, I did! Thanks! --Stux 18:51, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
