:::::Huh. The page is MUCH better, however, I feel it may go against Once And Only Once. Neutral. But, if it is determined to be deleted, suggest merge the catch phrases, slogans, and mottos to the character's/companies' pages. 15:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

:Sample of Style and Store Thank You Messages. Hey, if this page is going to be kept, we should replace "numerous occassions" with ALL the "occassions". Otherwise, it seems like we're not trying. It's like we're saying "Yeah, he probably said 'Holy Crap' a couple of times but we can't be bothered to tell you when he said it. Now go away." 15:11, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

appearances list
-
:I was thinking of re-arranging the appearances list so that it looked something like this:

-
Appearances
-
Homestar Runner
-
*Seriously - (list of all appearances)

-
*Some other catch phrase - (list of all appearances)

-
Strong Bad
-
*Holy Crap - (list of all appearances)

-
*Some other catch phrase - (list of all appearances)

-

-
:Naturally, the (list of all appearances)'s will be replaced with a list of all appearances, and the "some other catch phrase" will be replaced by a different catch phrase, if there are any.

I'm very sorry about the jpg.  I'm having trouble getting .png files.

:DOn't worry! It's just, I've always been told to use pngs here. Man, I've gotta fix one of mine, too. ;-) ACupOfCoffee: Yeah, you probably should.

Nev mind.  Just got it fixed.  I can't believe I didn't change it in the first place, even though I had to use Paint Shop Pro to crop the image anyways.

:::Hmmm... Catch Phrases seem to be catogorized by character... how would this work out on there? If we were to, reogranize it then maybe... 23:49, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Some of these aren't really catch phrases and others are variations of similar ones... i think i'll re-organize this page removing the ones that aren't and putting the ones that are variations as sub-bullets. Any objections? 00:27, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

-
:Great minds DO think alike... I was looking at the page and said to myself, "Some of these have only appeared in one toon/are variations on other catch phrases. I think I'll notify the head users about my plan to delete one-timers and sub-bullet variations on the talk page." And what should I see but a message left by another user with the EXACT SAME INTENTIONS!!!!!

What counts?
-

-
So i mentioned it a couple years ago, but nothing was ever actually done. There's no clear rule as to what counts as a catchphrase and what doesn't. At the moment, it seems to just be people adding fun quotes and hoping they stay. This is not a good system. We need to define what counts as a catch phrase, and then remove those that don't. Anyone know where to begin a discussion as to what counts? 21:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

-
:I think we should have only things that are repeated in a later toon and variations thereof. So "my stupid baby brother" would be out. 22:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

-
::And what separates a catch phrase from just something that was said twice as a running gag? 22:08, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

-
:::Basically, nothing added today counts, and I removed the remainder. That leaves the question: Do we make a cutoff for how many times something must be repeated? Even then, we have cases where things AREN'T repeated (much if at all) but are called or treated like catch phrases; "That's bupkis!" being a prime example. -- 23:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

-
::::Exactly. There are cases where stuff IS repeated that doesn't make it a catch phrase (ex: anything involving the phrase "terrific athlete") and there are things that are never repeated that are clearly catch phrases (ex: "Look lively!") I don't think the criterion is related to reuse. But then, what IS the criterion? 23:49, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

-
:::::Also, does "Made from the best stuff" really count? It's a slogan, not a catch phrase. But according to some definitions, a slogan and a catch phrase can be the same thing. Also, if it DOES count, then why shouldn't "drink in that bun!"? So what makes a catch phrase a catch phrase? 00:28, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

-
::::::That one's easy enough to answer. A catch phrase should be tied to a character, not a product. So "Drink in that bun" is tied to the Sog Dog, not Coach Z. Not a catch phrase. On the other hand, Marshie is pretty much defined by being the creepy mascot of Fluffy Puff Marshmallows, so it's not unreasonable to consider the Fluffy Puff slogan to also be his catch phrase, given that he says it frequently enough. -- 00:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

-
:::::::Okay, bad example. Still, questions like this are what need to be discussed, and i think we need to have a comprehensive definition of what is and is not a catchphrase. 00:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

-

-
No, no, I get that. I've been trying to come up with a definition, but the problem is... it's kind of hard to define. The best I can come up with is a long list of things that should flag the listener that something's a catch phrase (used repeatedly in unusual contexts, contains an unusual word, complex enough that it's noticeable when it's repeated, called a catch phrase by the characters themselves), yet all but the last of those can be corrupted by noticeably non-catchphrasey examples. -- 00:49, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Should we add Homsar's line "I was raised by a cup of coffee"? I know it wasn't actually said by him, but it got its own mug and t-shirt. -- 17:31, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

-
:Not a terrible idea, but I lean toward no— it's not a catch phrase if the character doesn't say it. 18:47, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
