If Anyone Wants To Get An Image File, I don't know why, but the stupid Media Player won't let me get just a simple image shot. It keeps giving me some kinda linked video file, so my 'image' changes as I watch the video on the player, and goes blank when I turn it off. Any ideas? Or just upload your own, there's only like two different choices for anyone who has the NYU video... For future refferance though, does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using the Alt + Print Screen meathod on Windows XP. It's really really annoying. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 16:38, 26 Mar 2005 (MST)
- The problem of taking screenshots of video has to do with hardware acceleration. To take screenshots, you'll need to turn hardware acceleration for video playback off. To do this, you'll need to go to your display properties (Start Menu --> Control Panel --> Display --> "Settings" tab --> "Advanced" button --> "Troubleshoot" tab --> "Hardware Acceleration:" slider control). You should move this slider to "none" and then click OK. This will allow you to use the print screen button to capture video screenshots like you would normal screenshots. It might make fast forwarding videos a little weird though, and you should restore your settings when you are though taking screenshots. Is it worth mentioning somewhere (not necessarily here) that Trogador is much bigger in Happy Trogday than he was in the NYU Talk? Compare the size of Stinkoman in the NYU screenshot and the size he was in the toon. --DorianGray 22:43, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm a Japanese student, and I think that Trogdor's Japanese name is more along the lines of トラーグドア (Toraagudoa). --The Great Aussie Evil 22:20, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- Really old, but just to make sure rebuttals are registered: This would be an unusual transliteration. A lot of words can transliterate into Japanese in more than one way, and you'll see inconsistencies when a word is new or obscure enough to Japanese culture not to be in dictionaries. Nevertheless, I think the first one listed on the page (トログドア - torogudoa) is by far the most likely version.
- Aussie's version has two problems. First is the "ra" instead of "ro". Conventionally, transliteration from English to Japanese only distinguishes the different pronunciations of "o" with different lengths, not with different vowels. Thus "joke" would be "jooku" (where "oo" is a double-long o, not the "oo" in "boot"), while "jock" would be "jokku". Even though "jakku" in a Japanese accent would sound similar to "jock", any Japanese transliterator worth his salt would assume that to be "jack".
- The other problem is doubling "ra" to "raa". This convention has evolved a bit over the years, but in modern usage the Japanese often don't care quite that much which syllable was stressed in the English word. In a word like Trogdor, they wouldn't bother to lengthen the vowel just to indicate stress, but they would lengthen it to indicate a different sound. Specifically, "aa" in newer Japanese loan words is most often used in place of "ar" or "er" when they come at the end of an English syllable. (For example, they call a turn signal a "winker", and transliterate it as "winkaa".)
- Thus, Aussie's transliteration would probably be marginally recognizable to a Japanese reader familiar with Trogdor. But to the unfamiliar, it would probably be retransliterated back to English as "Trargdor".

- The distinction is essentially moot, because the most correct version of the word, insofar as its usage here, is in Japanese, which certainly has no written accents. The accent is for English speakers unfamiliar with the word who might otherwise mistake the "e" for a silent "e". 24.165.178.120 14:03, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
