[edit] Inactive awards

Both the Favorite User Award and the Homslice of the Week award are inactive, and have been for a while. Would it be alright to, at least temporarily delete or comment tag them from the page? Users often look at these awards with the hope of actually recieving them. — Lapper (talk) 03:34, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it's up to anyone but the awards creator to delete them. Homestramy20|Talk 03:39, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Is it me...

Is it me or have there been a few new awards recently? Should we want to have more, or less? I alone can think up a couple good awards, but I wasn't sure if I should use them because I thought we had enough. Do we, or should there be more? --smileyface.PNG11945 (Talk/Ctrbs) 14:15, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I know that at lease for myself I would not usually give out an award that was created by someone else, becuase it is not mine to give. It think for that reason, as long as it doesn't become excessive, go for it, award are great moral boosters! I R F 14:50, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Smileyface. That's why I didn't make my Thank You Award be a barnstar. There are too many. — talk Bubsty edits 17:58, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Seven is not that many, I think. The offical wiki ones (the top three) are rarely used, and the next two are user awards that are currently inactive. In essence, we only have two being actively given, which isn't much at all. --DorianGray
In that case, can I make my thank you award be a barnstar? — talk Bubsty edits 18:18, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff

These seem like stuff that belong on the Fanstuff Wiki... :S - Joshua 17:52, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

but people at this wiki need encourcagement too! Also they only appear on talk pages and not articles. I R F 17:54, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
True. It's still technically fanstuff... but if the admins are fine with it, I'll leave it alone. - Joshua 18:39, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
I, also find it as fanstuff. I see no reason to suddenly spike up the small number of awards that were once held sacred and given oh-so-rarely. — Lapper (talk) 23:33, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] reply for Bubsty

two things: people was spelled wrong, and since when was this a table???
Since yesterday. I R F 12:21, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I see. I actully like it this way a lot more. Nice work! — talk Bubsty edits 05:01, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Okay, enough is enough, guys. Let's calm down a bit.

There are so many different awards out there, that this page probably only represents a 1/4 of a slice of them. Enough is enough. This is getting slightly out of hand. Can we put a limit on the amount of awards and barnstars there are on the wiki, and if so, what should that number be? My answer would be yes and no more than 10 I think. Personally, I also think that this page should have a list of the awards. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 02:30, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Personally, I haven't noticed it getting out of hand. There are quite a few different users who have created barnstars that they award people, but for the most part they're using one of their personal images, so it's not an excess image problem.
I've always been a fan of giving out the more standard awards (The Iron Cup, and one day The Pizza Trophy), but I don't see a problem with users designating one of their personal images as an award to help encourage their fellow wiki users.
Those are just my thoughts, anyway. As for the question about listing all the awards on this page, I'm fairly ambivalent. Trey56 02:44, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, one must look up to the Fanstuff discussion for why I'm starting to question the ruliness of this in the first place. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 02:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
I've had an issue with this for a long time. The original barnstars were considered very prestigious, but then they started getting handed out more often. And then users started creating their own awards and abandoning them. In their current state, I don't think these awards are encouraging anybody. We should either drop all the user-made ones or drop them all. — Lapper (talk) 03:24, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Personally, I think user made ones are bad, and more official ones should be created, I personally don't have a problem with Wikipedia style barnstar giving habits, why must they be so hard to get? Maybe Pizza Trophies are better rare, but why can't an average user who makes contributions and gives time to the Wiki at least have some sort of sign of congratuation and things, I say we create more official barnstars and remove all user made ones, and ask informal ones to end, especially Numa Numa's person of the day, which essentially serve to spam up popular talk pages.--~ SlipStream 06:11, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Personally, I say we should get rid of the user-made ones, for reasons stated above. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 21:00, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
What, the official "Answered Example's Weekly 24 Question" is making the official ones less prestigious? I see no problem with it. Considering you can give ANYONE a barnstar, removing the unofficial ones would make everything bland and confusing, and not solve the true problem at hand. I think the problem is that the official ones are seldom given, while the user ones are more commonly given and more well known. You wight as well remove all custom userboxes. Bluebry 22:04, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
"...the user ones are more commonly given and more well known." You mean the nine personal barnstars we have that haven't been touched or heard of in ages? — Lapper (talk) 17:04, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
And also, I don't care about the userboxes, I care about the images. The things users are uploading to give a few people and then forget about. Such as my cool guy award. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 00:11, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I think a number of the user-made awards should be removed, especially those whose creators have openly declared discontinued, like Homeslice of the Week and Platypus award. Awards belonging to users who haven't been seen for a long time (like a year or more), I think, should also be removed. This includes the Favourite User Award, the Pewter Van Buren, and the Grunt Work award. But I don't think the images should be deleted, so recipients can keep them. They should just be removed from this page. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 00:39, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree wholeheartedly, Sam. --Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 18:48, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
What is the big problem here? We aren't running out of server space. Who care if there are user awards that are seldom given out. What harm are they doing here. They sit here on HRWiki:Barnstars and are there when I choose to give one out. I seldom give mine out because mine has only been deserved twice that I have witnessed. This isn't a problem like guestbooks were, where they are clogging of RC, in fact since they are seldom used, there are seldom on RC. Personally I have been encouraged when getting two user awards. Just let em' stay. I R F 12:17, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
