Mortal Kombat is a fantasy-themed fighting game series that came to prominence in the early 90s. Featuring visuals inspired by Chinese mythology and (for the time) highly realistic graphics, the series is also notorious for its intense graphic violence. Being video game fans, The Brothers Chaps have occasionally made reference to the series.

[edit] Appearances

  • Peasant's QuestNaked Ned popping in and out from the tree is similar to Smoke from Mortal Kombat II in the living forest level, where he would occasionally pop out, look, and return behind the tree.
  • Email strong badathlonHomestar fighting himself is reminiscent of the classic Mortal Kombat "Mirror Matches".
  • 8-Bit is Enough — When summoning Boxer Joe, Strong Bad sometimes says "Round 1, FIGHT!" the same way the announcer does in Mortal Kombat.
  • Hremail 2000 (Easter egg) — When Homestar and Shadow Homestar battle, the gruff announcer says "Round One, FIGHT!" as in Mortal Kombat. His laugh is also reminiscent of a certain sound effect in the series. The character of Shadow Homestar is also likely a reference to Noob Saibot, a recurring secret boss who first appeared as a silhouette of the series' ninja characters that shared their moves.
  • I Killed Pom Pom — Strong Mad dresses as Goro, the four-armed demon warrior who debuted in the original game. In his Easter egg, he says "I'M A BABALITY!", referencing a type of finishing move where the winner turns their opponent into a baby.
