Politics
From Homestar Runner Wiki
The Homestar Runner body of work is essentially apolitical, as The Brothers Chaps have avoided using their work to express any political views of their own. Nonetheless, there have been a few references to politics in their work, always of a politically neutral nature.
[edit] Appearances
- Homestarloween Party — Marzipan, while telling her part of a ghost story, says that one of the girls in the story was a Republican.
- The House That Gave Sucky Treats — Pom Pom dresses as controversial liberal political filmmaker Michael Moore for Halloween.
- Email the show — Homestar Runner asks The Poopsmith if he would care to share some of his "polictical views". He does not, and leaves the show.
- Halloween Potion-ma-jig — One option for Homestar Runner to earn a stirring utensil from Bubs is to do a Reagan impression, though Homestar insists it is an impression of Keanu Reagan, not president Ronald Reagan. He can also be seen doing the impression in an Easter egg. He mentions economics and Oliver Cromwell (although likely intending Oliver North).
- Email secret identity — The magazine Scarfgirl includes the topic "Is politics bad?".
- Email 4 branches — Released shortly after the 2006 United States midterm elections, this email derives its title from the three branches of the United States government and includes Homestar Runner's head as part of the United States Capitol.
- Email slumber party — The King of Town complains, "Government ain't right!"
- Email hiding — Strong Sad says "Ooh, parliament!" after Strong Bad and The Cheat throw a barrister's wig under a cage. In the DVD commentary, the Chaps say that this was inspired by the Prime Minister's Questions, a recurring event where the British prime minister fields questions from the rest of Parliament, and is well-known for its confrontational exchanges between the PM and members of the opposition.
- Strong Badia the Free — Strong Bad remarks to Marzipan that Marzistar's policies sound vaguely communistic. Indeed, its official name is the 'Free People's Republic of Marzistar', reminiscent of the official names of various communist states (i.e. "German Democratic Republic", "People's Republic of China", "Democratic People's Republic of Korea", etc.).
