Shakespeare
From Homestar Runner Wiki
The Brothers Chaps have made reference to William Shakespeare several times, be it in content or appearance.
[edit] Appearances
- Bug In Mouth Disease — The toon opens with Strong Sad watching a program about "why come Shakespeare was so awesome".
- Email bedtime story — Strong Bad says "sleep tight, sweet prince", a reference to Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2, where Horatio says "Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest" to the dying Hamlet.
- Halloween Potion-ma-jig — Bubs's recommendation of "eye of newt" and "toe of frog" originated as magical ingredients in Act IV, Scene 1, line 16 of Macbeth, one of the most famous and influential depictions of witches in Western culture.
- Weclome Back — During her song, Marzipan appears behind a topiary tree shaped like William Shakespeare.
- Email love poems — Arrow'd Guy appears dressed as William Shakespeare and spears Meredith and Kimberly. In addition, Kimberly's line "I herly berly on gerly werly" is a reference to a line spoken by the second witch in Macbeth, "When the hurlyburly's done, when the battle's lost and won."
- Baddest of the Bands — Coach Z makes two references to the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet: When he's at Marzipan's house, Strong Bad suggests poetry to get her attention, so he elaborates on Romeo's line, "What light through yonder window breaks?" when he says, "What light breaks through that window there? It's-a Marzipan, and she's got yellow hair." While he's in the locker room, he rambles, "Wherefore art thou, Marzipan?" (though this was improper usage of wherefore).
- Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective — Strong Bad mentions that Pom Pom is a classically trained Shakespearean actor.
- @StrongBadActual tweet (8 Aug 2016) — A bust of Shakespeare (a replica of the one from the 1966 "Batman" show) appears in a picture with Strong Bad, Tom Servo, and a papier-mache Joker head.
