Talk:Bubs' Concession Stand
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Bubs' Concession Stand is a featured article, which means it showcases an important part of the Homestar Runner body of work and/or highlights the fine work of this wiki. We also might just think it's cool. If you see a way this page can be updated or improved without compromising previous work, feel free to contribute. |
It was suggested on Bubs discussion that all the items he's sold be listed. Sounded good to me, but figured it should belong on this page. I threw this together for comments (not complete). What's the best way to list this (or how much space do we want to use up with this list)? Similar to how I have it here, or each item individually? Is the title of the toon(s)-of-origin enough? --BaconSandwich 10:45, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)

- Whoa, that's cool. I added it to the page. -- Tom 11:19, 8 Feb 2005 (MST)
- Thanks, I added as much more as I could readily think of and find, and cleaned up a little. I seem to recall some other times when characters may have referred to items they got from Bubs (like in the KoT E-mail), but can't remember specifically. Still like to see a better way to list this, but any other way would probably take up too much space. BTW: while looking for this stuff I seem to have discovered that the popcorn machine coincides with the sign reading "Concessions by Bubs", as seen in A Jumping Jack Contest,The Best Decemberween Ever,Where's The Cheat? (the only toons I've noticed). Not sure if this is interesting enough to note anywhere... --BaconSandwich 00:13, 10 Feb 2005 (MST)
[edit] All that crazy crap
I noticed something interesting. I don't know if it should be a fun fact or not, but it certainly is something I would never have noticed before.
I think all the "crazy crap" from The Best Decemberween Ever previously belonged to Strong Bad. After all, it all has some sort of connection to Strong Bad:
- He's actually in "Tag Team Wrestling".
- The oven mitts have his initials on them.
- Who else would use a Strong Sad voodoo doll?
- We know Strong Bad is a fan of Peter Frampton, since he has one of his songs playing in Strong Bad's Room Main Page.
- It's possible that the Deep Impact DVD that Homestar keeps giving Strong Bad is actually the same one every time; Strong Bad might just return it to Bubs' every year. --ComputerBox 01:52, 4 Mar 2005 (MST)
[edit] Company Table and other info
After I added the table containing company info, the I noticed the article text was moved down the page. Is it possible to have the article text stay on the left, and the box sta on the right, without anything bein moved down? --Gafaddict 14:14, 15 Mar 2005 (MST)
[edit] Slogan?
Is "we got all types of crazy crap" really an official slogan? I've only heard him use it once. --Joshua 12:09, 27 Mar 2005 (MST)
- Good point. I know the Bubs t-shirt I have says "We're always awesome!" in the logo-thingy. -- Tom 23:45, 27 Mar 2005 (MST)
- It could also be "Come on by! We're always awesome". --Gafaddict 02:48, 2 Apr 2005 (MST)
[edit] Flamethrower?
One of the items listed was the flamethrower from different town. But I'm not sure if that really counts because it was Strong Bad's imagination. Thoughts? -Alice 3:23, 3 May 2005
I think it shouldn't count. Even if it says it's just fantasy (which it does). Kvb 19:29, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
So...what we gonna do about it? It has to be on the page SOMEWHERE as like, a fun fact or something. I just don't think it belongs in the list. -Alice 8:04, 4 May 2005
- Then again, the six tubes of rear-end cream in highschool shouldn't count either, considering Strong Bad's "doodle memory". — KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Real title
Shouldn't it be called Bubs' Conces5ion Stand?
No, that's just what the sign says of Bubs' Concession Stand. When it said "Concessions by Bubs" that wasn't the stand's name. At least, that's what I think. -- Joshua
[edit] Duck A L'orange??
Should this be on the list?
In "Lunch Special" this was an item requested by the cheat, any confirmation on whether this is actually a purchasable item? -- Mix Ma$ta' - 8 May 2005
Why the hell does it say "Free Country" instead of "Free Country, USA"? --Darklinkskywalker 20:19, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Grammatical Accuracy
Technically, the name of the place should be "Bubs's Concession Stand" instead of "Bubs' Concession Stand", unless the stand was originally founded by several people named Bub. I am surprised that grammar-nazi Strong Bad has not noticed this fact already.
Er..no, it's correct.
- We add an apostrophe without an "s" after plural nouns ending in "s". The same thing happens if it's a proper noun that ends in an "s"
- Everytime we see Bubs' stand, the sign is almost always spelt as "Bubs' Concession Stand", so that is the correct way of spelling it grammatically.
- I don't think you are allowed to say grammar-nazi here. It can be offensive and controversial.
– The Chort 17:07, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_apost.html - Purdue University and James's hat disagree.
- The Purdue page doesn't fully explore the topic of s-apostrophe. According to Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation, by Lynne Truss, there are a small number of proper nouns ending in s whose correct possessives are s-apostrophe. I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe they are all biblical names, notably Jesus and Moses. All other singular nouns ending in s, proper or not, form their possessives as "-s's", like James's hat. So technically Bubs is in the wrong, but she does point out that you can't really argue with what a business has adopted as its official usage, especially if they're claiming it as a trademark. (Which it's safe to say Bubs would if you asked him.) Now watch me read the book again and discover that there's a difference between British (which Ms. Truss is) and American usage... --TheNicestGuy 05:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but nevertheless, whether it is right or wrong, we must spell it exactly the same way The Brothers Chaps spell it. If it was wrong, it would have already been fixed ages ago. – The Chort 19:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notable Events needs reworking.
Notable events needs some serious organization. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:22, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] S, 5, bingo!
I'm not sure how, or whether, to work this into the article. The five in CONCES5ION implies that Bubs ran out of S before finishing the sign, right? So how did he spell STAND? Or maybe I'm stubbornly overlooking the possibility that Bubs was just careless when fishing letters out of some beaten-up shoebox in the basement. Opinions? Noteworthy? --TheNicestGuy 04:59, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm... There's no saying he didn't have the layout planned, and wrote "Stand" first. I wouldn't worry about it. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 05:01, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stan
The "featured event" saying that a guy named Stan used to work at Bubs's, doesn't link to a source for this information. Where does this fact come from? — 193.217.163.116 (Talk | contribs) (left unsigned)
- It was in Cool Things... I've added it to the article. --phlip TC 06:22, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cheats
I'm not sure The Cheats should be added as things "not sold." In the cartoon Where's The Cheat, Bubs says "we're fresh outta cheats" and not "we don't sell any cheats." -WarthogDemon 02:46, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. "Cheats" was on his inventory list, Bubs just happened to be "fresh out." (Um, I think I added "cheats" in the Known Items Sold section. Should I take it out until this is resolved)? ... 4kai2lyn6
- I'm going to go ahead and delete that "Items not sold" section... kai lyn 22:32, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- (And just in case anyone checks the history for this page, sorry about deleting more than I meant to...I'm such a jerk!...Thanks DorianGray for fixin' that!) kai lyn 14:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, guys, can "cheats" be game cheat walkthroughs? I mean, They're weird! -Viklas 17:31, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mysterious food
What about things that are POSSIBLY sold?
buffalo chicken tenders (7.50/some)
These are quite a mystery - we don't see Strong Bad directly buy them or query Bubs about them, but since the stand is most of the economy, it may be the only place to buy them!

[edit] Bubs' Concession Stand on Arena
I was wondering if anybody thought it would be worth mentioning that Bubs' Concession Stand was built on top of the arena. [1] (at the Commentary Transcript on DVD version section). I get it's probably just a joke, but I think someone could at least put, "It's apparently built on the old arena." I didn't want to just add it since Bubs' Concession Stand is a major thing.. Dangeresque, too?
[edit] Redirect
I was trying to undo that. StarFox 05:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fun Fact?
I don' think that the current lone fun fact should be there. It mentions something that was previously stated on the page, and said fact was only in Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective. Do we have any proof that the concession stand was a prision apart from Strong Bad's movie? --DarkAlex 03:57, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Aha. I just noticed the same thing. (I hate to re-open old conversations, but this one went nowhere.) The one "fun fact" doesn't even bother to mention where this bit of info *came* from. Shouldn't it just be moved to "Notable Events" (and reworded), if it isn't there already? -YK 03:20, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] PbtC Stand
Could someone upload a picture of the stand from Where U Goin' 2? for the picture section? Monkeytender 19:23, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Graffiti?
I think that the graffiti on Bubs' Concession Stand doesn't need a whole section since it has only appeared 4 times. It should just be described in the main description. Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 22:17 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- 4 times is generally enough for a running gag page on this wiki. The only reason it's a subsection and not a running gag is that it's a phenomena specifically connected to the concession stand. — Defender1031*Talk 03:40, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
