[edit] CGNU Far Side
Quick Question: should the Far Side version of The Jolly Dumple also be included? --Stux 06:04, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think it doesn’t hurt -113.37.226.89 06:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
[edit] Once and only once, only once
So there's been a series of reverts regarding redundant linking to character pages. (Culminating, for now, in my most recent revert.) Since there's disagreement on this matter as well as inconsistencies in how this is applied, I'm bringing the discussion into the talk page. With that in mind, here are my observations:
- The Resulting removal of links remains inconsistent. A simple example: between the Cover and Day 1, Homestar Runner is linked twice. Strong Bad is linked three times: in the Cover, Day 3 and Day 14. And Cow Lamp is also linked twice in consecutive days. None of these were covered in the revert in question.
- Our policy discourages multiple linking, however there are two exceptions: long articles and sections that may be linked to other sections. Note that both of the criteria might fit some or all of the cases on this page. It is also the reasoning behind this edit, which I previously thought was made on the Decemberweenvent Calendar page instead of this one.
Therefore, there is strong rationale for keeping the links as they are now: so readers don't have to hunt for links if they jump to any of the sections on this page. --Stux 14:48, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Directly above the link you posted for “our policy” it says link every instance in a table. This is a table. -113.37.226.89 14:50, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Indeed. Each table row should be considered its own mini-article. This is because it is possible to link directly to a table row (and in this case it's likely that we would). If someone finds themself looking at day 17 Homestar, they shouldn't have to scroll all the way up to the cover hunting for the link to the character page. — It's dot com 16:53, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- If each cell is treated as a mini article, should other things be linked each time? For example, many rows could conceivably merit links to green tongues or lack of visible arms/body parts. -113.37.226.89 08:27, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, I was wondering that also. I'm thinking that while we shouldn't go overboard on links, things like linking again to special items such as green tongues is probably a good idea. --Stux 15:12, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think we should design our pages for the typical reader (someone who's used the site a few times but isn't necessarily a power user). A typical user should be able to learn where to expect to find links. For example, all characters are linked at the very top of toon articles. If I see a character mentioned on that kind of article, I know exactly where to look. Similarly, if I see an unlinked character mentioned in a paragraph in a non-toon article, I expect to find a link in that paragraph (or somewhere toward the beginning of that section if it's a long article). In a table (all tables really, but especially ones that grow to the complexity of this one), if something's not linked, I think to myself, well I guess I'll just have to hunt for it toward the top somewhere. Or I might just assume there's no article. It doesn't make for easy browsing, especially when it's possible that another link brought me straight to that row. So to answer your question directly, if green tongues is linked at all, it should probably be linked on each row where it appears. — It's dot com 15:27, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Nintendo Art Covers
When looking at 3D Shield Guy and Vector Strong Bad from Day-7, I've been wondering if those drawings resemble old-school North American NES box covers such as this one (described here) and this one that don't look much at all like the actual videogame's art style. We now see something similar again in Day-21. I was tempted to add these to Retro Gaming Character Variations, but I'm starting to think this wasn't a deliberate reference but rather accidental. What is everyone's opinion? --Stux 15:07, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- Side question, but also relating to game box art covers: we should add the version of Trogdor on the “Barninate” game cover they show. -113.37.226.89 23:35, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
[edit] Design Rejects
The wrestlem'n just shared some rejected weenvent designs that ended up not being used for the calendar, they should get a separate table on the page of I'm not mistaken?
