Is the name "The Denzel" some sort of reference to a real-life name, like Denzel Washington?

- Denzel Washington was the first person I thought of, but I agree that we can't assume here. I would be interested in knowing how many famous Denzels there are, or if Denzel is ever anything but a proper noun?

I don't think that The Denzel should be considered a pseudocharacter. It doesn't speak, and it's not treated like a character. It's treated like a teddy bear.

In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast, the Sega president is cited as disparagingly referring to the doomed Sega Saturn as 'the denzel'.
