[edit] SBEmail Running Gag category
I recently added nearly all the articles in Category:Strong Bad Email running gags to this template. In the interest of not starting an edit war, I'd like to state that if an article is removed from this template for having "[nothing] to do with sbemails" it ought to be removed from that category as well. -- Bleu Ninja 20:54, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Woops, too late on the edit war thing. Since this space is longer than an edit summary, here is my rationale:
- Homestar Runner Left Behind — The header reads (emphasis mine): "In the Easter eggs of some toons (mostly Strong Bad Emails), Homestar Runner is seen...". More than half of the appearances are from emails.
- References to Years in Which Toons Were Released — Eyeballing it, more than half of the entries from 2000-2008 are from emails. The rest of the page has a few more email references and the end of the page links to Email Number References as a related topic.
- Also, not only would removing the pages from the category be necessary, but the template would need to be removed also! In any case, I believe that these two pages fall sufficiently within the purview of SBE running gags. --Stux 20:33, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Considering sbemails are by far the most plentiful category of toon, it's a statistical probability that some running gags will randomly appear more often in emails, so that doesn't feel notable to me. There are other examples of this, like Interrupted Conversations and You know, the kind — they're conceptually unrelated to emails, but appear in a lot of them. In contrast, all of the other listed running gags wouldn't exist without sbemails (with a couple exceptions that I think are still connected to sbemails in a noteworthy way).

- I agree that, since so much of Homestar Runner content is emails, something often appearing in emails doesn't mean it's necessarily an email-related running gag, and I think the email running gags category should be treated similarly to the template as far as inclusion guidelines. I also agree that there should be some tie to sbemails for a page to qualify — for Acknowledged Update Delays, the fact that sbemails were the only thing on the website apart from minor stuff like Weeklies to even have a set weekly schedule would be enough to justify its inclusion in my opinion. The rest that are being discussed, to me, seem less intrinsically sbemail-related. DEI
