Template talk:bland
From Homestar Runner Wiki
I appreciate the sentiment and effort that went into this template, but I'm not sure it's that great an idea to use it. The biggest thing is that at present, it would leave a huge banner across an article's page that's likely to be larger than the text of the article itself, which I think would be pretty aesthetically jarring. It may be worth making the template smaller for this reason. I'm also not convinced the problem of OA articles is really large enough to merit the use of a template, anyway. OA articles are not great, it's true, but are they really a big enough problem to merit adding a big tag to any reader who passes them by? I tend to think not. I'd like to hear some other opinions on the matter. Heimstern Läufer 14:53, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- The reason it is so large is that I did not know how to make a template, and used the Feature Article on as a base. I did not know how to shrink it, but was hoping someone who knew could. It was supposed to be slimmer and take up less space.--Jellote wuz here 14:57, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with Heimstern. In this situation I think it'd be better to fix the OA page in question right away rather than slapping a sticker on it and forgetting about it. --Stux 15:00, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I think Jellote is on to something with this template. Maybe not with the current wording or size, but there are a lot of boring articles about. Jellote - Since you made this template, which pages do you think it should go on? Maybe then we can define a clear purpose for this. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:03, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I made this based on past experiences. Pages that are in this list are nigh-impossible to take on at once. Because of this, I figured that if we make a template, several users would feel obligated to help, and this never-ending problem would be resolved. I was able to write four descriptions in one hour, so you see how hard it can be to provide information relevant to the page. Like a cleanup and stub templates, any newbie can notice the problem, but not nessicarily know how to properly solve it. By adding this, veteran users will take on the problem, and fix it. See where I'm going with this?--Jellote wuz here 22:30, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
