:Thanks for hearing me out, It's dot com! Yes, I wasn't completely sure of the proper means of doing so, but I wanted to get the word out on the Wiki anyway. What was really confusing me was the fact that no one else on the wiki even acknowledged the existence of either Ocelot/Porridge Maiden, or Paul and Storm's new Brothers Chaps-animated holiday special &mdash; several days after both were announced. I was honestly expecting both to be documented and Main Page'd long before I saw them.

PNG is preferred here because it is lossless and doesn't have the artifacts JPEG is notorious for.  This algorithm may be better but is it devoid of artifacts? ::::::Catjaz63: Smaller file sizes may or may not improve wiki performance.  Not all the issues are caused by bandwidth saturation.  Rendering wiki pages can take time and burden the server's CPUs and/or I/O and tend to cause the most noticeable slowdowns.  More horsepower and memory are needed but that is more expen$ive. The wiki was even slower a few months ago until some optimizations were enabled.  That said 1.2MB for a single image is quite large (though Mediawiki will rescale the image for thumbnails and the like; only only download the full 1.2MB when you view the image itself on the image page).  Which image was this?  
::::::There is nothing inherently wrong with lossy optimizations and they generally work fairly well on live images, but cartoon-like images with uniform colors and smooth lines can make any compression artifacts more noticeable and less aesthetically pleasing (in JPEG weird squares will appear and dark areas that are supposed to be "black" may show squares that aren't supposed to be there). I found [[Wikipedia:Compression artifact|this wiki article]] with some examples.  From further reading TinyPNG's page their compression is different.  It seems like they try to find like colors and combine them as one.  Thus it won't have any JPEG artifacts but since there's still loss of data the image won't be exactly the same there may be other kinds of artifacts which is less than ideal. Generally speaking, we've preferred to present exact representations of content screenshots but, who knows, we may have tinyPNG compressed images and not know it.

:::::::Catjaz: (I typed this out while Stux edited the page, so I apologize if I repeat anything) The dimensions of the file (width and height) can be made smaller, and I might upload a new and sharper version of that image, but the problem with lossy PNG optimization is that you start to lose '''colors''' and end up with something that looks like a GIF file. If you look at some of my contributions you'll see that I have reuploaded some images because they had a loss of color. It's not always obvious but it is something to look for and fix, for the following reason: 
:::::::Suppose something bizarre happens that causes all traces of Homestar Runner to suddenly vanish from the internet, but spares this site. If that were the case, "historians" would look for not only the most accurate information, but also the most accurate visual representations of homestarrunner.com. So it is in the best interest of a comprehensive knowledgebase like this one to provide accurate images where possible.
:::::::As for file size, yes, that is outlandish. But like I said, it doesn't have to be -- and you'll notice the other two images are JPGs for that reason.
:::::::And to clarify, the suggestion that images should be under 100KB was more relevant when 1) internet speeds were slower and 2) homestarrunner.com only operated in a small window of less than 600x600 pixels.

:::::::::I'm sure I found the same guide you did, Stux. So, using OptiPNG, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that YouTube206.png has been replaced with an image that is clearer, smaller in pixel size, and half the file size without loss of quality. The bad news is, using that same technique, all of the thumbnails are virtually the same size. In total they lose about 100KB out of 1.8MB, which is not enough to change it. Since the server will automatically generate smaller versions of the images so they can be viewed on the thumbnail page, any reduction in size will not have a huge impact on the end user. --{{User:Purple Wrench/sig}} 00:57, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to see what they think and that's why I put it in the sandbox. In addition, it also renders the Twitter templates useless and I'm sure a lot of work went into them. So once there is a clear indication that other users prefer the layout, then I can confidently release it. It technically is "Extra Sauce", due to there being, what I think, is a light emphasis on the "tuh" of extra, so it can sound like "ex ra sauce", which can be interpreted as "eggs with sauce". Also, there's no "whi" sound for it to be "eggs with". :Hey there! Sorry it took so long for me to wake up from my skillet nap. But at least you're still active 'round her', so I'll answer your question in the order in which it was received. ...The singular one.
:So, I'm not entirely sure I know ''exactly'' what I was teekin' bot back then, but I have a pretty good hunch that I'd found a few ...oddities... around that time; while they seemed unrelated to each other on the surface, it seemed plausible that the reason for all of them might have been that The Brothers Chaps had lost some of their data or hardware, or at least made it much harder to access. (By "loss of hardware", I mean not being able to make use of old data on newer hardware due to compatibility issues with abandoned or evolving software.) I'm not going to attempt to do a deep dive to find all of those odd occurrences now, but the biggest points in favor of this hypothesis that I can remember would be:
:#Some videos uploaded to YouTube since the end of the hiatus were of DVD quality (ie, ripped from the DVDs), even though they were clearly made in Flash
:#A few character design regressions in some post-hiatus toons (If I recall correctly, Strong Sad's redesigned hands from 2008-2009 were replaced with much sketchier-looking ones) 
:#And of course the change in swf versions as discussed on that talk page.

:But, since then, we've gotten a few pieces of content from The Brothers Chaps that either outright debunk the hypothesis or just limit its scope. The [[Grumblecakes (video)|Grumblecakes video]] being in higher quality on YouTube (among others), all the longer versions of songs in [[Homestar Runner Original Soundtrack]], and of course the fact that [[Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate]] exists at all. So perhaps TBC only lost some of their historical files, not all of them; or perhaps they just put them in a storage space like Puppet Homestar; or maybe they always had everything close at hand and just decided to take the path of most lazy-istance for those few cases I mentioned above.
:Of course it's worth mentioning that, even though TBC were arguably rather stubborn about sticking with Flash 5 for a while, it's clear they eventually were able to move on. After all, with newer versions of Adobe Animate came newer features, some of which TBC definitely used in [[Two More Eggs]]. So the change in swf versions might have been just a side-effect that showed up as they embraced the newer software. And the other things I noticed might have just been coincidence. There are other [[User:Purple_Wrench/Contentions_I_Hold|contentions I held]] that had much stronger evidence back then, some of which I will still defend now (especially the Yello Dello one &mdash; I technically can't prove it but it makes so much sense).
