When a character makes a sarcastic remark in the Homestar Runner universe, another character will often refer to it as sassing back.

- Fan Stuff — "You are an ugly butt and your butt is stupid" is described as "backsassin'".
- Debut: Lookin at a Thing in a Bag — Strong Bad asks Strong Mad to get him a drink. When Strong Mad replies "more like, you get me a drink", Strong Bad tells him not to sass back at him.
- Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer — The King of Peasantry says Rather Dashing will upset the balance by trying to kill Trogdor. Rather Dashing says he'll upset his balance, to which the king tells him not to sass back at the council.
- The System is Down (DVD commentary) — Matt Chapman describes Homestar Runner's sass as "sass dackery", a portmanteau with daiquiri.
- Email hiding — Coach Z mistakes Strong Bad for a back-sassing animatronic Strong Bad. Later, Homestar tells Animatronic Strong Bad not to sass back at him.
